Back pedal? If you go revist my response to said refutation, you'll note that that's... exactly what I said the first time around: That you quoted something, then furnished a response that was way off somewhere else and had nothing to do with what you were responding to.
You're trying to pawn it off as an "observation", but the tone, as well as the rest of your posts in the thread clearly demonstrate that it's a lie. --------------- Faction-Militia:Player-Alliance::Newbie-corp:Player-corp |

Ethics) I hardly ever ransom, but I will ALWAYS honour it. I'm not saying everyone should, or that I'm awesome in anyway because of it - its just my chosen policy.
API) Unless someone has a genuinely good reason for having my API key, they can bugger off. There are very few good reasons to give anyone the key.
Trust) Trust isn't black or white... you trust people to a greater or lesser extent. For example, you could reasonably trust someone you've just met with a million isk, simply because the risk is so low it doesn't cost you much if your trust is misplaced. The only people I trust 100% in this game are people I know in real life, simply because they know I would burn their house down in revenge. I also trust they would do the same.

Perhaps if English is not their primary language.
Selective quoting FTW I suppose.
I think you'd have better luck with the "handbags at 20 paces option".

Most corps are pretty up front about whether your API is part of the application process. I think you can make the decision before ever completing the application.
If you're recruited, again the standards are usually spelled out about whether the API will be expected. If you refuse to apply based on the API issue, let the corp know that and see if something can be worked out or move along.
Regarding 3d party apps and API...oddly people are strangely trusting in this area. I think it's fundamentally one of the things that keeps the community growing, it would be very easy for a dev of one of the more popular apps to slip API-stealing code in an update and harvest and ransom/sell those keys. RL people can hardly be trusted anymore than their in-game avatars.
3d party apps/sites make EvE possible. If CCP turned-off the API server, the population would shrink dramatically. That said, I've always thought that the API was intended for individual use and not a screening tool for corps. But the 'law of unintended consequences' has given this additional purpose. So be it. But remember, if there was no reason to keep this information private, the API wouldn't exist and you could look up any character with no key required.
