OK so when I got my hulk sometimes ago it was costing like 80mil isk give or take 10. And by mining solo in hi-sec I was able to get close to 10mil isk per hour. Or atleast very close.
Now a hulk suddenly costs almost 200mil isk. (ok the rigs are cheaper but stil total is higher) And if you try hard you might get 4mil isk per hour in hi-sec. Even in an orca supported mining op its difficult to beat 7mil isk per hour per person.
So maybe its time to sell the hulk and move on? With the next expansion even more minerals wil probably come into the game from the planets. I figure then minerals wil be worth even less...
Once again the point can be raised that somebody running lvl 4's can probably reprocess close to 4mil isk per hour in minerals. (not 100% sure of numbers) So maybe I should trade my hulk in for a raven and mine with cruise missiles??
CCP is this what you want? hi-sec mining to be next to worthless? Wil the hulk have a future or is it going to become something exclusive for w-space and 0.0?

Highsec is a safe place for people to learn the basics of the game, perhaps you should explore the other parts, I hear there are good ores.

You easily make much more than 4M per hour by reprocessing mission loot, at least I do.
Then I sell the named meta 3 and 4 mods. Then I buy faction items with the loyalty points and sell them for 50-100M a piece. Then I sell the implants I get every 16M for up to about 20M each.
Of course, on top of that I also get the faction standings, corp standings, security status (my alt is like 3.7 sec, started at < 0 and this full hi sec).
Of course on top of that there's the bounties (5-20M per mission or more for Angels Extravaganza).
And finally, of course, there's the 2-3M of mission rewards.
Still like mining? Thought so. - Auditing and consulting

The advantages to mining are that you don't need to concentrate on it. You can easily do homework, read a book, watch a movie, or do just about anything else while you mine. It is also one of the activities that scales well with the number of accounts you own. Because each account only needs interaction every 3 minutes (10 if you fit your hulks for afk-mining instead of maximizing m3/minute).
Mission running on the other hand requires constant interaction. You could probably juggle 2 or 3 mission running accounts at once (unless you use AFK mission running drone boats). But if you are talking purely about profitability for the average player - mission running beats mining hands down. Not to mention that you don't really have to worry about someone suicide ganking your mission running ship unless you fit faction/officer mods. Even if someone DOES suicide gank your mission running battleship, you lose at the most 100 million ISK, whereas if you lose a hulk you lose 200 million ISK. ----------

Edited by: Syds Sinclair on 06/03/2010 03:42:54 ..I will say that even tho you can get 10M/hr solo mining and more with a hauler alt/orca alt/not to mention multiple Hulk accounts, mining is not worth it. You are going to make your Eve game time as boring as can be.
Skill up for a perfect Hulk AFTER you have found out what you like to do in Eve. For example, after you are an experienced explorer, making good money fron class 2 anoms, killing sleepers, skill that Hulk up to mine all the ABC ores in there.
I sorely regret skilling up for a Hulk as the first thing I did in Eve (even tho skilling up learning skills was much more boring at the time.) Now that I am into production and trade, and finally skilling up a Drake for WH's, I'm having 100x more fun with my LIMITED Eve play time.
Edit:
Be advised that because of a fellow named Breaker77, it has come out that around 50% of my posts are useless crap. Keep that in mind when reading this post. You're a coin flip that it might be useless crap. But then again, it might be pure gold!
