Ultimately I would like pull 50% of the resources we have now, and move them into mining sites that we need to get some probes out to find first.
Less standard belt minerals, more hidden. That is all.

Why would you want that as there are 2 reasons
1) the price of mins would go off the chart as there would be a massive reduction in available mins 2) There is no reason for that to happen
Now if you were saying hidden belts with different ore eg very small belts with rare ore normally not found in high sec then yes that may be an option but to reduce the normal belts is a bad idea

I think what the OP says is valid. CCP have been talking about hidden belts that have to be scanned out for a while now. I think it would add a bit extra to mining if the belts had to be scanned for, it would also reduce the amount of belts that are totally depleted.
Belts should also move next time they respawn so that you can't just BM the belt once you've found it and keep it forever. Belt remains until it's depleted but a new one spawns every DT up to a capped limit per system, beyond that limit, no more spawns until the belts are depleted. That's number of roids and not amount of ore though so, technically you can mine every roid in the system down to 1 unit and no more will spawn on next DT, only completely depleted roids will respawn.
Yes, I do a lot of mining quite regularly. I think this would also help lowsec as well. No more overview jumps from belt to belt for player rats looking for easy targets, they'll have to scan for the belts like the miners do.
Now I'll be expecting flames from player pirates outraged that they might have to actually work to get their easy targets.

i actually like the ideas posted here removal of 50% of recources from roid belts and then shifted to hidden scannable belts would be good as this would also mess the macro miners up and the knocking down of roids to just a few thousand of anything is very annoying so would be good if the roids didnt respawn unless completely mined out.

Imo there should only be fixed belts in 1.0 starter systems. The rocks in there should never go any larger than half a strip miners cycle load, so newbies can actually make use of those belts and not have to watch a hulkfleet vacuum the entire belt at once.
Every other belt should have to be scanned. Now that the scanning interface is relatively simple to use it really makes sense. Add a new signature type, so people can scan specifically for roid-fields or specifically not for them. Call it "planetary signature" or something. Why add it as a new sig type? Because we're going to add lots of those belts per system and don't want to ruin other peoples gameplay with them. Lot's of them, because we don't want to ruin the miners gameplay either. No point in having them search tons of systems before finding a free belt. Those belts could be placed around planets and within planetary rings. Fields with higher yields could be harder to find (i.e. by placing them a bit above or below another field on the planetary plane or by making it harder to get a 100% signal on them)
Obviously, the mining process itself would also have to be improved. A miner who pays attention to what's going on in the game should be able to increase his yield by a very significant amount. There've been countless threads about how to do this, so I'll not repeat those again, too. - In simplistic terms it has been said that there is enough Zero Point Energy in the volume the size of a coffee cup to boil away EarthÆs oceans. |

Total ban on barges in starter systems would be a far easier idea. It would be easy for a macro to turn off the mining lasers at half a cycle and still vacuum the entire belt.
Anyone who has moved on and got the skills to fly a barge shouldn't still be in a starter systems, they are for noobs who are learning to get started in Eve. No doubt you'll still have one or two mining BS out there with 6+ mining lasers mounted on it but I guess that's still better than a hulk fleet.

I don't think there would really be a price change. 100% of the minerals would still be there, just 50% are not quite as simple to get to anymore.
The day I started playing Eve, there was no ore in the belts in my starter system. I thought it represented things nicely. It pushed me to go explore to find my own riches.

I'd actully pull 75% of the Ore out of fixed belts, move 25% into CA type Belts(require only the ships scanner to find) and the other 50% into CS(Require probes to find).
I'd also like to see the re-introduction of a Multi-Spec typed probe, ie takes longer to perform a scan but will tell you the CA/CS Types that are in system, but not where they are.

Mining should be entirely removed from highsec, except unconcentrated veldspar.
