I've been in and out of Jita quite a bit in the last few days and have seen this Morte character plying the oldest scam in Eve. Myself as well as many others have been warning new people not to fall for it. Not to rub salt in your wounds but, if you disregarded this advice you have only yourself to blame, sorry.
Now that you've gotten a taste of harsh reality Jita local style I hope you'll choose to learn from the experience, pick yourself up and move on. Just remember to NEVER send money to people you don't know. |

It's called a corp. Join one.
Also last I checked cod doesn't have money.
last I checked, COD is capitalized. And is for noobs. EVE is not for noobs. You shouldn't be here. ------ C&P wannabe

If your leaving that easily then clearly this game isnt for you, you will never come to know how small amount of scam money that is. Before you leave sit in jita and have a close look at some of the contracts being spammed on the local chat, you might just see the amount of isk that some people get scammed for.
You guys make squeeky noises when you pop, and that's enough motivation as far as I'm concerned. |

Everytime I'm in Jita and see one of those messages in local, I ALWAYS reply back in local with "Wow man, 200 mil isk received after 100 mil sent! Thanks man!!!!" even though I have nothing to do with them.
I didn't know people actually fell for this scam. There is a sucker born every minute

sandas21,
What you're describing is actually a pretty common thing in EVE. For every really clever/devious player out there who plans heists, cons, and such -- there are many more characters who just sit for hours in New Eden's various trade and mission hubs spamming their copypasta tricks into local chat. You learned a hard lesson but as was stated above, at least you learned it in the beginning rather than being out many millions of ISK.
A good rule of thumb is that if someone proclaims in local that they're "leaving EVE", and want you to send them ISK and they'll send double/triple/whatever back, it's just deception. The first several people will get their ISK returned back a few times over while the would-be scammer builts up momentum. But as soon as enough ISK starts flooding in he/she is going to cut and run. Sleazy, yes, but it is permissible in the game. (Also, if someone was really leaving EVE and had ISK to give away... they'd just give it away. No need for pilots to send them anything.)
Anyway, don't feel too bad about it. A lot of people get taken for ISK by this sort of thing, which is why it's fairly prevalent in populated high sec systems. Just try to keep your guard up a bit more and you'll be fine.

sandas21: if you want to earn that isk back relatively quickly, just fit a salvager and hit up some mission hubs and ask people if you can salvage their missions.
Not everyone wants to take the time to salvage and its pretty good isk for someone only a month or two old.
Hit me up ingame if you need some more help.

Stick around, you learned a lesson now with what is a small sum all things considered. You won't fall for it again. Stick around longer and you'll be making 15m in a matter of minutes depending on what you do.

Actually, it was legit. But due to the vast amounts of cash he was handing out, you probably got lost in the shuffle. Send him a very firm email reminding him that he owes you money.

If a random person on the street came up to you and said that if you gave him your house (or car, or life savings, or the lunch your mom packed for you for school), he'd give you twice as much back, would you just give it to him?
Seriously, how can the people who fall for these scams live long enough to learn how to use a computer in the first place? How come they dont all get lured into the back of unmarked vans by creepy old men? Yes, I really am that horrible. |

Think logically about the scam/offer in question. Who in their right mind would waste their time offering double or triple the investment?
