I love the Incursus, but it needs a buff. Compare the top tier of other races' frigates' 9 or 10 slots to the lowly Incursus's 8.
Merlin:10 slots (4/4/2) Kestrel:9 slots (4/3/2) Rifter: 10 (4/3/3) Vigil: 9 (3/3/3) Punisher: 10 (4/2/4.....(does anybody fly Amarr frig other than the Punisher?) Inquisitor: 9 (3/2/4) Tristan: 10 (4/3/3)
and, finally, the poor relative...
Incursus: 8(3/3/2)
This causes a number of problems for us poor Gallente pilots: little opportunity for tank (none for active tank), big penalty if you substitute a nos for the 3rd gun, and no bonus resists a la Merlin and Punisher. The simple fact is, the Incursus needs another slot. I think it should be a low slot to enable traditional armor tank, but frankly I'd settle for another slot ANYWHERE on this ship.
I'd be interested in hearing from other pilots on this...isn't the Incursus simply gimped in comparison to other races' combat frigs?
Let the flaming begin.

It is very gimped. Fitting is a problem as well.

And yet, I am regularly able to beat the other T1 frigates while piloting my Incursus. Kinda makes you think, huh? I guess a ship is not merely the sum of its fitting slots.

Perhaps not, since the ship type is but one variable in the outcome of a battle. There are numerous variables, such as fittings, skillpoints, pilot skills, etc. However, ceteris paribus, an Incursus will always lose to a Rifter.

That's pretty significant on a ship class that doesn't very often break 100 DPS.

It sounds as though somebody's been drinking someone's Koolaid. We have just gone from claiming the Incursus compares unfavorably to such T1 frigates as the Merlin, Kestrel, and Inquisitor to claiming the Incursus is not as good as the acclaimed leader of T1 frigates, the Rifter. I won't argue that one. However, while the Rifter's strength is its versatility, several credible Rifter loadouts will lose to the cookie-cutter Incursus.

Sorry if i am going a bit offtopic, but what would you consider the cookie-cutter Incursus?
I ve been researching quite a few fittings as i am relatively new to pvp and Incursus is my tool of trade. Most loadouts fundametally vary only by the low slots (guns might vary, but its either neutrons/ions; mids might vary with ab/mwd; rigs might also vary) and so far i ve noticed plate+dcu and dcu+overdrive to be quite popular. I see you are flying plate+mag stab, which i havent personally tried yet. What would you consider to be the best anti-rifter fit?
Again, sorry for drifting offtopic Your advice would be highly apretiated!

Edited by: Smabs on 12/03/2010 08:34:21 I'm not sure that there's a specific anti-rifter fit, since there's a whole variety of rifters out there.
The main thing I'd be thinking about flying an incursus against a rifter is that they will probably assume you're blaster fit and will try and orbit at about 6km. You'd have to be faster than them to get in antimatter range. Alternately I guess having rails fitted or neutrons with null and ambit rigs fitted will make up for the range problem. But if it's a 400 plate neut rifter you'll probably cap out and die.
So I guess it just depends.

It gets a drone to make up for the lack of the slot.
General system is that only the tier3 frigs have 10 slots, tier2 have 9 etc. Gets a little muddied when eWar/mining frigs enter the picture but that is the general schema.
Besides, it has some pretty awesome base stats for a T1 frig and a quite high damage potential. Loads of fun to fly the poking stick as well so don't really see anything wrong with it as is.
What you should be lobbying for is to give the fat-man a 3/2 weapon layout instead of the silly 2/2 layout it currently suffers under

Edited by: Marko Riva on 12/03/2010 10:40:24 Tristan is plagued by the dual weapon system crap. The incursus is a fantastic ship for solo pvp against other frigates, it can even kill combat inties because of it's falloff bonus. It also does massive dps, way more than other frigates.

If you actually have both missiles and hybrids trained the tristan is quite good. But since it's just about the only gallente ship using missiles it's a bit pointless to most players.

Slotage means very little to me. An Incursus is far more viable as a PvP ship than a Kestrel will ever be.

It seems to me that the Incursus is a victim of balance among its siblings. If you added a third low slot you'd make it (arguably) better than the Tristan, which needs to be at the top of the Gallente frigate pile.

You are correct, however, I am not the OP. I never argued that the Incursus is inferior than Merlin, Kestrel and Inquisitor.

Thanks for your ideas and discussion. I think a good part of the problem is that I am a slow learner when it comes to PvP. Also there are prolly some glaring holes in my skills base, including some in navigation .
While I'll continue to lobby for that 3rd low slot (I think one drone is quite enough) I agree with those who are basically happy with the way Eve works. Lots to consider here, and I appreciate your comments.

As a solo ship the incursus is ok and in that light could use an extra low but in a gang situation its dps and speed come in right handy at the price.
