So once people scale down their FPSing you should see the concurrent user number rising back to its previous high levels.
Confirming this, I am on a BC2 binge right now...

umm...why do people allways keep equating "skill"to "twitch"?
a lot of people seem to hink "skill based"= "beeing able to bash 3-5 keys really really fast
IMHO , twitch "skill" is 99% dependant on coffee boosters , nothing else .
Personally , a twitch based combat model would totaly ruin eve for me . If I want that crap , i`ll just play some random shooter for half an hour and be done with it. EvE requires a lot more skills then just turning on coffein powered keyboard bashing , among them situational awareness , ability to make the right decision under pressure , leadership (not the ingame one), etc. OFcourse , eve allso allows you to be a simple "pres F1 now"grunt if thats your thing...

EVE Online is unique and it would not do us any good to change the foundation it is built on.

Edited by: CCP Shadow on 14/03/2010 20:08:21 I'm moving this to Features and Ideas Discussion, but this thread is drifting off the topic of EVE.
Off-topic posts have been removed. Please keep the conversation focused on how you'd like to see EVE change and improve rather than discussing a number of other games. Thanks.

What I would like to see for Eve Online is:
/trumpets play a fanfare...
A complete rewrite of the base code, bringing it up to date. yeah, I know, never happen, but with all the technological advances in the last 10 years (since I believe ((could be wrong)) it was originally conceived and started coding in 2000?
I imagine a lot of issues could get squared away. of course, a LOT of issues would probably come in too...

Edited by: voiddragon on 14/03/2010 21:45:26 Played STO, it's just WoW with spaceships. You can't have massive fleet fights in STO either. So yeah, EVE is pretty secure and even so just because a player is playing bad company 2 doesn't mean he is going to stop playing EVE. I do both. Anyway, EVE has always adapted by adding new content and they've never disappointed yet. So to say they're dying is... stupid especially when EVE has only ever been increasing in concurrent users since it began if you negate unholy rage against the spammers.
But a few things I'd appreciate changing in EVE: Physics / maneuvering of ships and better weapon collisions.
Like client-side graphic processing of collisions between weapons like missiles with shields and armor that ignite explosions and fire along the hull. But all this can be client side and thus won't lag the server...theoretically. As for ship movements, well. I'd like to see a ship move less like a fight jet and just turn to face it's target and then ignite it's thrusters in that direction. Take a look at the game: "Nexus: The Jupiter Incident". Those thruster maneuvering and thruster effects are cool.

Edited by: Mr Kidd on 15/03/2010 03:29:32 The OP makes a valid point if not a faux pas by pointing out a positive feature another game has that Eve lacks. Burn him!
No wait......we will be getting walking in station so we can spend hours looking at new graphical effects and how dynamic our fabrics are. No doubt it will completely replace game play in Eve with hours upon hours of walking back and forth from our ship's docking port to the other end of the station.
But, just in the off chance that it doesn't pan out the way I'm predicting CCP could provide us with some dynamics in the space realm: solid objects, planets, moons, asteroids for instance. It might make pvp a little more interesting and blob warfare a bit more precarious. Not that I'm saying we should have more physics instead of pretty characters and a place to walk.

We didn't listen! Now EvE will die for sure! You guys had better get out while the getting's good. Quick, give me your stuff, you'll move faster without it.
And my feelings are a little hurt that the thread got moved to F&I when it drifted off-topic. Why not just lock it? I love my F&I and I don't like it being treated as a dumping ground for bad threads. A spawning ground, sure, but dumping? Never.
Rewriting the engine to emulate the flavor of the month game is not a practical business model. If CCP wanted to build a new game from the ground up, they'd just make a new game and be done with it. They could even keep EvE that way, instead of smashing it to make way for some new doodad. I don't think this game got where it is by copying other games, and I'm sure CCP isn't interested in starting now.
If I was going to recommend a big change in EvE combat, I'd suggest slowing it down. It goes so fast, a lot of people have trouble seeing the nuance. They're too slow to keep up with the range and tracking situation, so they just hit orbit, F1-F8 and pray for victory. ======================
