I remember when I did alliance tournament IV, about a week after I got back I went into my local McDonalds (with firebeanie about my person, along with a Gallente Federation tshirt) and the guy literally in front of me in the queue turned around and was just randomly like "Hi Verone, I saw you on Eve TV".
I almost **** myself, hahaha. We then ended up spending like an hour sat in McDonalds, talking crap and eating lunch. His name escapes me but the guy who used to be with Setenta Corp.
Funniest thing is, I got home from that, kind of like "Woah, that was surreal!" and logged into Eve. My inbox was flashing and I had new mail, from a completely different person. The mail said "Mate, do you live in Peterlee? My little brother just came in the house this afternoon like 'You'll never guess who I just saw in Woolworths down the town!'
I was laughing my ass off all day after that.

I've meet a lot of people who play EVE. Sadly no one I know first hand in game prior to meeting them in IRL. I have meet some who know me / my corp though... Even randomly ran into some of the CVA / provi guys back in my pirating of Lower Domain days prior to joining BDCI. I found that a little awkward though tbh... wasn't sure if they'd scream Amarr victor at me or something ;). Most of the random encounters I've had with EVE players were during my military days... they are everywhere in the US Military. Oddly enough they almost all (in my experience) turn out to be carebears or people who are removed from 0.0 political games. Go figure. Also ran into folks in places like stores, malls, parks, and... I guess I just have an EVE player radar.
None that counts the planned stuff of course. If you count in planned stuff then I've meet a lot more and had a few EVE players crashing on my living room floor even. -----

I've bumped into EVE players in the JFK and Frankfurt airports and chatted with them for a bit. Not all that weird though.

So there I was sitting in the waiting room in a brothel in Glasgow (my favourite trollop was wiping the grime off her snatch, presumably) and I got bull****ting to another one of the tarts. Turned out she played Eve, too. She makes isk cybering, too. Signature locked for discussing moderation. Navigator

I was teaching a freshman class at a state college and after closing a powerpoint the students saw my desktop for a bit. The EVE icon was there and one of my students told me he played and was in UK. I was in CVA at the time and told him he just earned an F for the class. We had a good laugh, we still convo each other in game and talk smack.

I don't go out.
I've never even met anybody in EVE that plays EVE. I have no friends.
I just play alone, and listen to classical music. I'm listening to Moonlight Sonata right now.

this one time i stalked the corp and their pos in wh for like 4 hours, waiting some guy with nighthawk to logon...
When he finnaly logged on and i killed him..we talked a little bit...
It turned out we are both from croatia and from the same city... ..whats more fascinating..even from the same neighbourhood... :D ... Didnt meet him irl afterwards and i am glad about this... ...coz its a rough neighbourhood and after the kill i really had to go buy some tobacco... ... But it would be somewhat funny (or not maybe :P ) to meet a guy in person after you kill his 300/400 M nighthawk... :D

I work with a guy who tried EVE, failed epically and emoragequit back to WOW. His whiny excuse with that you must be a math major to play.
My wife met a guy from Iceland at a business convention and he was very excited to hear that I play EVE. They had a rather long discussion about the game and CCP. Though I don't remember if he actually played.
Surrender is still your slightly less painful option. |

I interviewed some guy for a linux admin position at work. Somehow the topic moved to database platforms and I mentioned CCP's MS SQL server farm and he mentioned he played EVE too.
I tried really hard to get my boss to hire him, unfortunately they got some other guy who I never got a chance to interview.

Nonexistent Face
United Federation of Deaf

[107]
I go to RIT (uni. in USA) and when I made my first corporation (Deaf Rights Advocates) with two other members that I am good friends with IRL - whom I got into the game. Later, I get an offer to merge into somebody's similar deaf-friendly, no-VOIP corporation which was named United Federation of Deaf. I despised this corp and the CEO of the corp because he made his corp AFTER I made mine and then has the nerve to ask me to join his corp!
So anyways... I got approached by two people who 'kinda' knew me at RIT and asked if I was Nonexistent Face. It was really strange because I never mentioned I was from RIT in ANY of my posts before this post. They were able to tell that I was Nonexistent Face, but whatever. I thought it was pretty cool.
...and it doesn't end there. My brother calls me and says 'Yo, did you start a deaf corp or something in eve online?' Mind you, my brother doesn't even play EVE. I kept trying to get him into it, but I knew he wouldn't be fit for the slow-style of this game - but his roommate at his college does play EVE. I've never met this roommate but I've played with him on WoW, and somehow he was able to tell that I was Nonexistent and then asked my brother to call me up. Weird stuff!
...and nope, it doesn't stop there!!! Turns out the CEO of the other corporation, whom at this point I hated, actually attended RIT and my best friend (one of the two friends that joined EVE with me) has talked with him before. I dropped my hatred for him and merged into his corp and now we're basically like 75% RIT-goers, BUT around 100% RIT-goers or RIT-graduates.
So basically, all the members we have in here now, applied to the corp, found out that we all went to RIT/NTID, and admitted they used to go there too in the past.
Weird stuff man.

Hmm, most RL players I've met have been here at uni, couple of classmates and the odd random person who caught me checking the website. Weirdest one was back in high school, in the middle of a physics lesson, me and a friend got talking, he'd only just started EVE and was surprised to find out I already played. We got into a discussion about the pros and cons of various Caldari ships. Suddenly realised that our physics teacher had been stood at the front of the room staring at us silently for about the last minute. We both went quiet, suddenly he brightens up and tells us to cross-train Amarr for homework, since lasers are cooler.
Needless to say, physics lessons were a lot more interesting after that...

I was in a bakery (a very busy one) in Rome center. As i was in line my phone rings, its a friend from Poland, who is pretty allarmed and tells me something on the lines of "pos shields are down and xx", concerned i start asking things, mentioning assets stargate safespots, and a Dominix, I tell him i'll be home soon and hang up. Right after a man , must have been on the 30s asks me "do you play eve online?" i reply yes, he then promptly asks me "how many skillpoints? I have 8milions!" I felt a bit sorry when I replied him "50milions" back then, I picked a croissant from the bag i had just purchased and handed it to him and said " Fly safe, you'll get there eventually" smiled, and walked towards the exit saying "sorry! POS troubles!".
Other than that i've met a few in various restaurants/pubs but those were all "planned" meetings

Two of my class mates at my first college tried to get me to play, but I was hesitant at the time.
Graduated from college and moved on to uni, and I met an eve player between classes at a coffee shop. I caught a glimpse of something EVE related, I don't even remember what it was, and was like, "Hey, is that EVE online?" Then he asked me, "What, you play?" so I showed him my screen where I was ratting in a Drake in Pureblind. By this point I was in the same corp as my old college mates as well.
Turned out he was in Geminate I think it was. I still have him in my address book somewhere....

I've only gotten someone hooked on EVE, who then went on to find another EVE player in the same college course and then recruit someone in my current class.
I'm told someone at a local PC parts store plays EVE and I'd order an EVE shirt (etc) as a bat-signal to them, but I'm afraid he might have retired by the time it turns up ...
Slightly more surreal though, was when I was linked to a (legitimate) online news article reporting the RL homicide of a man who I recognised as being my first CEO in EVE (he was a prick anyway).

While talking to approach control, I was placed in a holding pattern to wait for a couple US Army black hawks (there is a guard base on the field) to cross over the active and clear the airspace. When the controller instructed me, "Hold north of the VOR for traffic." I replied "Wilco." and while the PTT was still down, I said quickly and softly "waiting for session change." Once around the hold and the controller cleared me down saying, "Cleared for approach back course 23. Still not as bad as Jita." I replied, "Cleared back course 23. This is why I fly caps." I went up to the tower and had a chat with him, we had some good jokes about EvE. It was few years ago and he no longer plays though :(

I just remembered another occasion:
I was applying for a job as a programmer at Testronic Labs and the boss asked me if I had any other job applications running.
Being honest I replied that I had submitted my information to a company in Iceland.
He immediately replied "You mean CCP?" , I was surprised and after some chatting it seems CCP just showed some interest in Venus Blue (a MMORPG testing platform). He told me that if everything worked out I might just get to fly to Iceland and cooperate with CCP itself.
Ofcourse I took the job.
Sadly enough the work environment wasn't good. Lot of ****ty on-the-side jobs that were far below my education, disgruntled co-workers and CCP losing interest.... so I left after a while.
To think I came that close to working with CCP... shame.
