While knitting i threw my hand on a very hot lamp and burned my finger. Now it's stinging like hell. It's red and a bit swollen, and really tender. I tried but on some nipple cream (stole it from my sister when her spawn started to eat real food, since the cream is really great for dry skin), and it did work for five minutes. Now it's back to throbbing and it feels like someone is stabbing my finger with tiny knives.
What should I do? Ice? Salt? Sacrify an animal? Help me, Out of Pod Kenobi, you're my only hope.

Put it under running cold water for a few minutes to curb swelling. Then just leave it out to dry. But the immediate cooling is essential for damage control on almost any kind of burn. After that, you can really only wait until it's healed. There are some burn salves that may help, but for small tier burns it's not all that necessary. --------

no no, that won't work. cold water is best, so that you don't get an ice burn. ---

Put some ice in a plastic bag and use that. But if it gets too uncomfortable, use a spare sock to put the plastic bag in it and let your hand rest on it. |

Isn't that what the cloth is for? I thought that wrapping the ice in cloth stopped the ice burning you. But yeah holding the finger under a cold tap is best as it's easier and quicker.
The fact the OP posted here though about his burn means it's too late to get the benefit of cooling the burn. Just make sure you keep the area around the burn clean and let your body fix itself. . Alliance Creation Service |

tbh still too much.
burnt skin is hypersensitive, and tap water at normal temperatures will feel like it's sub-zero. ---

Best to get some anti-burn cream and if it broke through the skin also apply some disinfectant and keep the wound covered.
Use a special bandage that doesn't stick to the wound! I speak from personal experience here!

I know how that feels. I fell of my bike when I was a small kid and got a big wound on my elbow. And a large bandage. It stuck. I had to sit with the elbow in the sink for what felt like hours befor the blood and goo had dissolved enough so mommy could take off the bandage without ripping off pieces of my arm. --------- the EVE Crafting Blog |

Still have the scars on both of my knees from something like this. Joke is that it was a doctor who put the bandages on that got stuck with the wound. Pathetic. --------

Burned my thumb and forefinger on a hot piece of metal I was cutting. Hurt like hell - put them in cold/cool water for 2 hours. Started to feel better after that.
