You: Basing your view on conjecture People who say it's a supply rocket: Basing their view on experience with the Planet mechanics on the Test Server -----

Basing your idea of what the actual release will look like based on the current test server build
The test server
-Represents a glimpse into the development of Tyrannis (read: it's not even in beta stage yet) -Uses placeholder graphics
Now stop whining about Sisi and contribute constructive ideas and suggestions instead. --------------------------- Only those who surrender are lost |

I am very much looking forward to this expansion. Granted, I haven't been playing very long, but I can see the potential in planetary exploitation. Very promising.
The Eve Univ video is very nice. Hopefully the final interface is just as simple as that one.

Am I the only one not at all excited about Tyrannis? All I see is one more readily exploitable revenue stream and one more aspect that requires micro-management.

I still don't like the idea of capsuleers "reigning" over planetary population equal to gods. Sure, in Space we are immortal, but down on the surface we are just a vulnerable as the ordinary citizen. The moment you leave your pod, you die for real. As such, i don't see us "ruling" over any kind of population. It just wouldn't feel right as far as the backstory is concerned.
Capsuleers are practically used by the empires to fight their wars - and yet, they are not bound to any one side, but can change their allegiance at will. I could imagine that any "planet-dweller" would deeply distrust a capsuleer, even more so if said capsuleer was suddenly made emperor or planetary govenor.
Instead, the whole "planetary interaction"-thing could be handled as an expansion the the corporate infrastructure which most things in EVE are build around. YOu don't reign over the population, you just try to get along with them (or rather, try to keep them at bay) while you exploit their planet. That could include bribes, sponsorships, supplying them with otherwise hard to come by products and intimidation.
Of course, that would mostly apply to life-bearing worlds situated in empire-space. Most barren and otherwise uninhabitable worlds would'nt have any kind of population worth speaking of (maybe ranging in hundreds or thousends, if at all), and situation would be different for low/nullsec and WH-space alltogether.

We don't leave pods (yet), this isn't Incarna. You rule planets through a window with checkboxes, from orbit. --------------------------- Only those who surrender are lost |

Wow, some people seem to be really dense. Here is what teaser trailer means.
Teaser trailers aren't supposed to have content or provide any info. They serve to fuel hype and to confirm that something is, indeed, coming out at some point in the future.
If you think it's not that impressive looking, OK, fine. But if you're complaining about no new info or lack of content, learn what "teaser trailer" means.
I guarantee that there will be a real trailer in about a month or so, since release is only about two months away.

How does what is essentially an expansion of mining/moon-mining translate to tyranny and warfare? Or is all the dramatics aimed at people pwning each other through the social-media add-on?
The trailer linked is more suited for Dust514, the Tyrannis expansion would be better served by a Space Odyssey type thing with dropships descending onto planets and buildings being erected.
The producer should hang his/her head in shame.
at least give us dust on PC so existing eve PC players can join in
Well the point is that EVE players keep playing EVE and players w/o eve play Dust... i mean think about it.. if eve players all started playing dust... what's the point of the connections?

Kind sir, you are not the only one who has acess to SiSi, i as well endulged in the extraction of precious minerals from planetary surfaces.
That said, there isn't much to "rule" right now, nor do i think that there will be with "Tyrannis", even if the name suggests otherwise. Capsuleers and planetary politics just don't mix. We already rule the heavens, ruling earth as well would mean a huge power-loss to the npc-factions (story wise). I mean, come on - PCC popping up all over the Amarr Homeworld? Caldari Prime being mined by Gallente? That's fine game-mechanic wise, but it "somewhat" breaks immersion, don't you think? And while Capsuleers may well be immortal, there are other forces at work in the EVE-Cluster that hold tremendously more power then a simple capsuleer. My guess would be that there are restrictions where you can deploy PCCs, at least in Empire Space.

As if.. What are all those exotic dancers for?
ps. The teaser didnt really tell much, and was made with basically no new graphics needed. There was a Hel, which would imply fighting, and some freighters, which would imply resource gathering. Not really surprising. Im waiting for the actual trailer.
pps. Eve is one of the very few MMOs where I dont pay attention to background story at all because it isnt in alignment with what I would hope it to be..

Edited by: Benri Konpaku on 20/03/2010 00:23:29 It isn't supposed to be restricted to mining operations though. It's agriculture, science, manufacture, maybe entertainment, etc. etc.
So my hope is to eventually get something like this::
A) All planets open to Tyrannis activities. B) Different planets/regions could have different products you can process/harvest etc. with bonus and penalties associated to them, so you'd have to look for a planet compatible with the product you want to develop. C) This availability could have to do with the type of planet, population, region of space, region within the planet, etc. so different planets in different regions would give different bonuses to certain types of production and have restrictions as to what is actually possible to produce there.
You can't expect to get Caldari research products in a Gallente planet right off the bat, but you could get a bonus should you decide to "produce" stripp... entertainers for Incarna bars for instance. D) I hope this is where the Sim City effect is implemented, by placing different facilities you could enhance or redirect the region's tendencies to produce something.
Example: You have a region of an Amarr planet, which gives decent bonus to agriculture (slave fueled bonus btw), and a penalty to entertainment and research. But if you decided to implement educational facilities you could maybe negate the research penalty, and if you give the population some egonics you might boost the entertainment capabilities and/or improve agricultural performance via happy(er) slaves.
E) Etc. Etc. too many ideas but I don't want to wall-o-text it all so I'll leave it there.
So anyway.
I know my ideas are **cking far-fetched, but it's the kind of thing I'd like to see in PI+Incarna. Then toss some Dust conflict goodness into the mix in the form of wars and political maneuvering since the bonus you get and implement in your region can spill over to neighboring areas owned by other players (just like pollution), and you have self generating content that could last you for a decade. |
