Originally by: Razin I don't see anything better on screenshots or in the gameplay videos. I lie, BP has engine trails. However, even with all the dated nebulae backdrops EVE's 'space' and planets still look better or similar at the very least. The plethora of 'space fog' visible in the BP media makes it look worse. EVE's stations look much better.
BP's planets and stations look a lot better in my opinion. the stations seem to have a purpose within the tactical environment, and youre a lot close to them. i was never able to feel immersed in eve's environment. all the POS buildings look tacked on, you cant use asteroids for cover, there arent any indoor areas a la descent 3 (may be more realistic, but not more fun). the "tactical" environment in eve is just a calculation and limited to wormholes; so being inside a nebula doesnt mess with your targeting or limit your visibility. in other words, it's a point and click MMO; there's your ship, and empty pointless space.

You mean it's a different game with twitch controls, instant gratification, and instanced 'environments'? Which part actually "puts eve to shame"?
oh absolutely. i said it puts eve to shame in some ways. i mean, twitch + space is oldschool. eve did two things right: 1) it's a great economical simulator 2) there are lots of things to do. and i'll take my instant gratification over waiting for 30 days so i can fly a ship.
now this is just my opinion. ive been craving an online space sim. eve is just an MMO, a good one at that. but the pvp gameplay is mediocre.
That's part of the point. Yours is an opinion based on some 'cinematic' trailers.
I'm not saying there is anything wrong with this type of a game, I just think saying it puts EVE to shame on anything is really premature.
Originally by: Kijo Rikki If anyone ever needed proof that EvE combat is incredibly boring, just ask all the vid makers out there why they speed their videos up.
To each his own. I happen to think that the most fun part of EVE's pvp almost never makes it into those vids. ...

I can agree. I'm assuming you refer to the suspense before combat, regardless of whether you are the hunter or the hunted. I'm not big on suspense. I am big on epic action. Resurrection Ship pt2 has spoiled me, I crave that kind of excellence in a combat MMO. > WHILE SIG<AWESOME DO LOOP there is no escape from my crappy sig. |

Prophecy looks like it could be fun for a while if you enjoy action, but it's a different style of game altogether. I might have a bit of a play, but I've played lots of MMOs, and it's EVE I always keep coming back to.

This
In EVE battles are won or lost based on fittings and tactics (numbers help to) with ships taking less skill to fly the bigger and slower they get.
In BP, JG:E, etc, the focus is going to be more on your piloting skills. It's no better or worse, just different. Would play them for the same reason I still play FPS - don't have to leave EVE for that.
