I was going to think of a 2012 movie joke but remembered the entire movie was one, so I'll just say: 2012.

Don't worry people, if the s**t hits the fan the drill for CCP is GTFO and when it's all over go back and salvage - Eve-online will be back up in 3 to never weeks time :)
As for this mini volcano irruption, nothing to worry about. --------------------------------------------

It's called overheating. All they need is a couple of nanite repair paste.

IIRC, Yellowstone wont erupt for a long time. but when it does its gonna suck. i think we have more to worry about from the magnetic field switching poles. i dont have a clue, but i remember my college physics professor talking about it.
(whats up with the fox news hate? All news channels suck and put their own spin on the story. 24 hour news stations ruined the news. )

This to be honest, the idea that FOX sucks any more or less than the other bunch of biased, profit making news groups (even BBC) is unfounded.

Hope everyone in Iceland ends up ok.
It all has me a lil unnerved. Haiti, Chile, now Iceland.
The Massive quake in Chile has me the most concerned with the plates/volcanism. Throughout earth's recorded history.. a quake in Chile is usually followed, within 6 months to 5 years time frame.. with a decent to big quake along the west coast here in the States. Or vice verse.
Highly doubt it'll kick start yellowstone.. altho that thing is swelling and is a global killer when it does go pop.. but the quake in Chile may be a prelude to the Big One that is overdo for the US west coast.

Doubt it. Plates dont work like that

Actually plates do work like that when one plate moves it can put pressure on another plate. The Hati earthquake is a good example of this it put pressure on the New Madrid fault and caused a 5.0 earthquake there a couple days later. Not that I am saying there will be a big quake in the states but when one plate moves it effects other parts of the world. |

The area in question is in a different part of the planet that is not connected to the south american plate. The thrust falt in the north west of america would not have been impacted by the recent chile quake. In fact the latest quake was expected to happen due to the pressure put upon it by very large movements to the north and south of the falt over the last 100 years.

hmm... 1000km radius will be the main "kill-zone", with probably near 100% fatality rate for the 50-100km.
400km or so, would be the radius of where people would get their eardrums shredded, and you could probably hear the blast up to NY or whatev.
immediate repercussions would be massive infrastructure damage on the NW, following by, probably, crippling the rest of the US infrastructure. Canada would be affected too.
but that's just the start of it. The "fun" part would be the hundreds of thousands (millions) of cubic meters of ash and gas that would be expelled to the atmosphere. short-to-medium term consequences would be pretty much fight become nearly impossible with all that ash clogging up engines. as for cars, it might be doable, if you slam an extra air filter or so, or replace it every few miles.
medium-to-long term, nuclear winter. probably lasting as long as a century or so. massive famine, collapse of civilization and all those doomsday scenarios. probably return to dark-ages/pre-renaissance times or so.
but that's me talking out of my arse ---
