It seems to work pretty well.
So far the only thing you seem to be able to do is read mails and send them from out of game.
Also edit your bio and view other players and their bios.
I like it.

The messages in EVE Gate are not displayed properly.
The linebreaks are not displayed correctly.

Even though they seemed to have placeholders for most of the features, there is no indication that switching easily between alts will be possible.
Hope they add a way to do that in the 'switch character' section.

A map opening up when you click a systemname (like the ones in the alliance sov lists) would be handy.

What I noticed so far:
The contact list doesn't use the ingame contact groups. I realize these are stored client-side but without them my contacts do not make much sense, there should be a way to synchronize that.
Also whereas EVE makes everything terribly small, EVE Gate makes everything terribly big, I'd like to see everything half size at most rather than the huge amounts of wasted space it currently has.
I still hate the idea that other people will be able to see my contacts list or at least part of it.
People/Corps/Alliances I have set standings to are shown as my contacts or as common contacts even though they are not in my contacts list.
Also allegedly I have many common contacts with other people to various "Disbanded Alliance"s. Probably same issue as above, must be standings related.
showinfo:// character links on the people's bios should be converted to http:// profile links.

All seems good, except one thing.. I don't like the implementation of "Mutual contacts", i don't want others to be able to see my contacts or who i've set standings to, so i deleted those. Here i found a problem; There was a number of "Disbanded alliance" in the list, of which none could be viewed, edited, removed or anything. That, i guess, is a bug.
I hope there will be an option to disable contact sharing, and imo it should default to "off". |

ok, just a hit list of comments on what ive seen so far. It's a critique, not a bashing session. If CCP are already doing something i mention, then no worries. Mostly I like what has been done and can see where its going and like it. The following are point i noted, good and bad. Other please agree/disagree with any points.
* Link with Sisi 0/ (Changed bio, immediate effect in sisi) so now flaws in DB link. Good start * Evemail wasnt quite so syncy. While Eve-EveGate came up instantly (after refresh, thats ok) EveGate to Eve mail too a relog. I was in space, and the mail was between two toons on the same account. * Status message thingy allows a single threaded comment on a status message. Looks good. Teeny Twitter ripoff, but tbh i like it. Have a separate twitter account for my Eve toon anyway, this may replace it. We will see. * I can see the begginings of some decent privacy settings, combating the "itel ****" CCP were concerned about (and i highly agree with). There could perhaps be a clearer distinction or ability to separate Spacebook friends and Eve political allies. ie i have a lota Reds who are old friends who i may want to see my status, or skills. Or at least keep in my spacebook Address book. * When viewing corp or alliance histories Disbanded entities just say "disbanded alliance" for eg, no info or link to what the disbanded entity was. Can haz pls * No way to add a contact (by typing name) in contacts screen, that i can see. Lil gripe, it will come no doubt. And yes i know if i hunt the toon otherwise i can "add to contact" * Cant see Notifications in EveGate, hope there coming. POS screams, "add contact" and war notifications will be handy. (I'm Sure its coming) * Can we get the UI button terminology sorted here. When you have a edit window open the Buttons that stores your changes should be named as such with words like "Save changes", Finish editing, or confirm, Having an Edit Contact window open that has a button that says "Edit Contact" feel like im gonna go in circles. This is in both Eve Gate and New eve contacts system UI. * Can we have a "Search contacts" search box, I know the big search box does it too. But your going to melt your server doing unnecessary searches when your user only wants a scoped search of his 150 toons in his/her addressbook. Utilising people brain power saves on CPU. * Search box on top right, did exactly what i wanted/expected, searched across the board for alliance, toons and corps 07 * In edit Contact, can we have "Notify contact" default to off? Especially in the first blush of updates i dont want to tell everybody ive changed them to red/blue etc.
Looking good guys. Glad to see a test up so soon. Long live Agile Scrum.

I think i agree with Triuocal. Admittedly you have to have the contact in your own addressbook before they would show up. I'd hope the higlighted members are only people who are blue, neuts oranges and reds will really set the cat amongst the pidgins. Or at very least only show mutial contacts that you have mutual standings two, eg a common enemy.
Generally this "Mutual friends" thing that Facebooks started is a massive invasion or privacy on both parts anyway, so I would be quite happy not to see it in Spacebook. It does provoke a morbid curiosity and nostalgia when browsing old contacts and finding the social networks you used to roll in. But I can do that with a bottle of burbon and some real life old friends, dont need a pokey mod for it lol
The whole open standings thing has to be optional though. While broadcasting your likes and dislikes can be cool, useful and meaningful this MUST be a default off setting per contact. Hunting and greifing Intel would be FAR to penetrating. (I'm not even sure its on the books, but this needed saying)

Have u looked ur contacts on SiSi? (they remade the whole thing) Because actually EVE-Gate is using contacts from SiSi where the whole feature had been changed.

I'm not really against sharing that with my friends, but there should be the possibility to make it not visible for everyone else (actually adding all the EVE to ur contact atm will give u info about all contacts of all people, if it wasn't that hard somebody would've done this, but seeing some contacts of ur enemy could be handy especially if u are lucky a bit) Like adding all jita local and nearby systems to contact and then searching for highsec friends/alts/altcorps of ur enemies... This is quite an exploit possible... (It's not possible on SiSi because server is almost empty (comparing to TQ) and u will not be able to determine who u should add to contacts, but if that one hits TQ it would be bad...) ------------------------------------------------- I am envoy from nowhere in nowhere. To the people complaining about "mutual friends":
1) It doesn't provide any new info that's not available in the contact list on EVEGate, it just filters out all but the ones you also have.
2) Go to settings and change who sees your contacts. Problem solved.

Again, you can get a full list of a person's contacts, whether mutual or not, if they have it set to allow you to (ie: people they have good standings to or people in their corp or whatever they want). "mutual contacts" just filters it and makes it convenient.
2) Go to settings and change who sees your contacts. Problem solved.

Wait, so being able to look at all of a person's friends in a big list is not an invasion of privacy, but having a list of mutual friends conveniently available is? It provides no new info--it just prevents you from having to look through potentially hundreds of people to see who you both know.
Did I miss the guy selling tin-foil hats when I entered this thread?
The first problem here is that the very first time I logged into this test version of eve gate all of the people I had blocked were listed in my contacts. This meant that any of these players could have seen our mutual friends. I did not want this at all.

A required anti-forgery token was not supplied or was invalid.
now everytime i logoff/login i get it and cant get any further....
I agree mutual contacts could be an issue, what i'd like to see is a privacy setting, "show mutual contacts" "show mutual friends with standing > X" and "show mutual enemies with standing < X" that we can choose what we want to share, everyone, friends only, or enemies we have in common...
perhaps also allow us to select a group of friends we want to share this info with, "everyone", "corp wide", "alliance wide", "standing greater than X"
we have the standing let us use it in our privacy settings :D

Edited by: Avalon Ranger on 24/03/2010 10:52:58 Really looks like it's coming along but I'd like to see a change to the 'Add Recipients' button in the mail section. There need to be a button for "Corp" and "Alliance". Currently typing in Corp sends it to the player 'Corp' and selecting people from your contacts list is rather difficult with the current method. I'd like to see a method similar to ingame when creating mail.
Just my thoughts on creating mail. Sending a mail to an address that does not exist does not generate an error. It fails silently and you get:

What's your angle?

Kinda funny because I have no idea what this is about... But, the whole "From: R.I.P." part.... does "R.I.P." mean someone that was sent to the shredder, or is it just a bug?

Exactly, in particular because you can (currently, I hope it's a bug) play with standings to "create" mutual friends. I know I already used this to look up address books of some people and there's nothing they can do about it. Spies should better keep their contact lists clean from now on...

i found a bug as i was trying this out on firefox and had a 2nd tab open so i'd have evegate on both and loged into 2 accounts everything started of great but when i went to select a character on the 2nd tab i found it wanted to select the character from the first tab which is a different account.
so it would be nice if it was fixed so we can look at more than one account at a time on different web pages.
besides this it looking great well until the next bug

Edited by: Jarne on 24/03/2010 12:24:19 I don't like the idea that someone is knowing my contacts either.
On a further note, I don't really understand the contacts vs. watchlist thing. At first I thought, contacts is meant for the people I really know (something like the blue people in my current address book), and that the watchlist is for those people where I'm just interested in knowing if they are online (e.g., titan pilots :)).
Currently all chars from my adressbook are also in my watchlist. But when I remove them from my contacts, they are also removed from the watchlist. So how do I get those titan pilots in my watchlist without having them in the contacts?
Edit: It just came to my mind... can I now log on to Sisi and add someone (let his name be X) to my contacts and then check for every other char I'm interested in if X has him in his adressbook?!?! That's insane. Spies all go to Sisi! - Success=Achievements/Expectations

You don't even need to go on SiSi, you can just add them from EVE Gate for the same effect.

No need to log onto SISI if you're adding.
Just: - log on to EVEGate - copy paste link manually - https://test.evegate.com/Profile/Jarne - substitute "Jarne" with other pilot's name - click Add to Contact. - .... - rinse and repeat - profittt!! |

Mutual Friends DOES need to be reworked. Showing Mutual Friends needs to be handled in the way that you need to be added on the other persons contacts AS WELL to view them. I like the idea of Mutual Contacts thought it is a little unnecessary. At the moment it's probably best to disable this feature until the a more fool-proof version is complete.

I send a message to someone last night using Eve Gate.
When I logged into Sisi 20 minutes later, the email was not listed in my Sent folder.
Is this intentional? Is it just not finished yet? Is it not really fully hooked up to Sisi? Or do I just need to wait longer?
