I was thinking to train for maruders but since I have my second account character that will be used for salvaging and looting I am really not sure what I should train now. I am talking about lv4 missions. Atm I already fly amarr BS's (abaddon and apocalipse). What would you sugesting me? I really want to run those missions as fast as possible. Thanks

Fly a second salvage character with a marauder is horribly inefficient. DPS of marauders is is better, and in some cases worse than faction BS counterparts. The real strength is being able to loot/salvage while you kill on a level unachievable by their faction counterparts.
If you are using an alt character, then share standings with him until that char can run their own L4s. Or make him a pvp character. The marauder will be able to make enough isk to pay for both accounts in plex.

It really depends on what rats you normally fight. If you stick to an area of space that you get consistant em/thermal rats then the laser ships are great, but if you have to move around and start getting other rats they really slow down.
Personally I keep a Rohk / Golem / Ishtar / Iteron V / shuttle / Enyo /at my mission hub for level 4's .
In general the raven ( cruise ) or Golem ( torp ) setups are nice balances as they allow you to select your damage type, and with missiles you don't have to worry about tracking issues.
I will say that there is something about blowing through a few missions, and then coming back and salvageing wreck balls, vs the pain that is alt tabbing to salvage / fight.

I've used Raven, CNR, phantasm, Tengu, Maelstrom (current). Vargur/mach is definitely in my sights now, and after that a golem/paladin.
it's all about the variety eh? :P

You right I didnt look at it proppelly so I stay with Palladin then. But what I would put on those spare high slots if I dont want to salvage. What usefull modules I should train for then?

If you do not want to salvage and loot on the fly, do not fly a marauder. Get something else. Whole point why marauders own so much (besides brutal dps) is that they loot and salvage on the go, and that saves you a ****load of time later. _______________________ We come for our people! |

As an Amarr character, I'd recommend a Nightmare if you don't mind training caldari BS to IV or V. Otherwise a Beam Abaddon makes a very good ship, as does the Mega Modulated Tachyon Navy Apoc (It's quite soft though, so don't fly it if you have a bad ISP or aren't 110% perfect on triggers and groups). PS: Salvage alts are a waste of time IMO. I heavily prefer a RR + sentry drone Domi assisting my main character to having an alt come in and salvage. Between your main and the domi, you can really blitz those 4s. ** Disclaimer: Author sometimes spell checks but is not responsible for sins of commission, omission, emission, transmission, or submission. Golem for anything and everything.
Nightmare for sansha and bloods.
Machariel/Vargur for angels and mercs.
So golem if you want to be able to mission anywhere, nightmare if for some reason (like, say, wanting to pvp in large non-drake gangs) you want to use guns instead of missiles and are missioning for amarr, mach or vargur if for some reason (like, say, wanting to pvp in large non-drake gangs) you want to use guns instead of missiles and are missioning for minmatar.

CNR (NRI) > golem, as much as NM > paladin, if you don't salvage. If you salvage, the golem is superior, but the paladin is also superior to NM.
Be coherent. :p

What makes the Golem superior to the Vargur for generic "mission anywhere"? Seems to me they both reach out to 40km, shield tank, and can swap damage types.(Honest question, I'm on the cusp of training for one or the other)

Truth.
I'd say CNR for longrange/small ship heavy mishes, varg/mach for angels, and Golem for all else. _____ ^ That is a sig line. It should be there without me having to put one in. |

Edited by: Astald Ohtar on 08/04/2010 01:23:42 I would say nightmare if you are running missions in amarr space, rarely getting guristas or angel missions anyway ,it doesnt need t2 pulses and BS 5 for the paladin, cause tachyons need more tracking to hit effectively in short range and the nightmare is just the right ship for that =), you would probabaly need to get some dead space shield booster to make it stable

Tanks like a CNR (but better) and torps/missiles never ever miss on non missile using rats ?
Sounds like enough reasons to me.

The strength of the golem is that it requires very little micromanagement, can perform well with just a T2 fit, and works in any region. Other ships can beat it for efficiency in more limited situations. For example the nightmare is better IF you stick to em/therm missions AND you don't mind micromanaging your capacitor and range AND you don't mind flying with a much more expensive fit (you won't find one using a shield booster which costs much less than 1B because they have too many power issues otherwise, even with maxed skills)
The benefit of marauders is that you can cherry pick the loot as you go. With practice you'll end up with 95% of the maximum loot value in your hold with no additional mission time required. Using a second account salvager adds very little income at that point, and runs at a loss when you factor in the GTC and human time costs. Running L4's efficiently nearly all your income is coming from bounties, LP's and modules. Salvage is trivial by comparison - probably less than the time cost of getting it.
The other factor to consider is that to fly any BS well in L4 missions needs 20-30m of support skills (electronics, navigation, drones, social skills etc etc). By the point you can fly any L4 really well cross training will feel negligible, both in terms of isk and additional training time. You certainly wont be married to just one ship... it will feel inefficient to just stick with one.

After six months of lvl4'ing in a marauder, this is the setup i've come to which seems to be the most efficient and speedy:
I use two monitors by the way, so alt tabbing doesn't come into it.
I use a kronos which is setup for max damage, min tank with 3 tractors fitted. I nape a mission whilst pulling all loot into a ball (i loot the BS wrecks and leave everything else for my salvage ship). My destroyer follows closely in tow to pick everything up with 6 salvagers and two tractors.
If i'm not wasted, then this method tends to hurt my wrist and requires deep concentration to perform really well, but it makes a lot of isk in a short space of time and it keeps it all from getting too boring.
Lvl4 Damsel will take less than 15 mins to complete this way. Guristas extravaganza - 45mins, not including the bonus room.
This is just my way. It might not work for everyone but it seems to work well for me.

DPS focused CNR with a Pith Booster, 800 Cap Charges with an Orca alt to loot. Fast as hell, clump the wrecks together (70km tractor beams ftw), then salvage up the piles after 4-5 missions.
