Edited by: Jerid Verges on 29/03/2010 19:20:33 Ships that give bonuses to weapons (And when I say weapon I am talking about turrets because I am not familiar with missiles) give bonuses based on the size of the ship and the size of the gun. Basically, frigates-bonus to small turrets.
What I am proposing is to remove the size specification in ship bonuses and go for a straight bonus. IE A Gallente BS has bonus to hybrid turret damage instead of large hybrid turret damage. That way if a BS wants to say, put medium turrets into its slots, or even small turrets, to shoot smaller targets that large guns can't hit. It can get bonuses to those turrets.
Y/N?

Maybe.
Let's change it a bit: let some ships have bonii to a smaller weapon counterpart, a drone boat for instance could be interested solely in smaller guns, why does it need guns in the same category?

Suggested this numerous times since tracking issues became apparent after Quantum Rise and during the AF AB boost testing/discussion. There was even a Dev that suggested using small guns on cruisers as a counter to the "new" frigates .. he was laughed off the forums by all of us though
Makes sense. You are sacrificing a lot of damage and range in exchange for better tracking.
Only thing that needs to be addressed is to make identifying the weapon size accurately possible. Currently all but impossible since medium/small guns are almost invisible on large hulls.

Edited by: Abbot Laarkin on 29/03/2010 20:05:20 Take any small-med gate camp. Add hurricane with 6x 280mm arty, 3x gyro 2's, 2x TE 2's, twin SB 2's, add a dash of remote SB.
Insta-pop every single frig that comes through the gate.
Render the thrasher obsolete.
While the idea does appeal to me, I think it would make a lot of frig pilots very unhappy.
Now do the same with an 8 gun BS and med guns, quite a few unhappy cruiser pilots about also.

I was under the impression they were 37 and had an IQ of 12

I'm not a fan. A Battleship should be fitted with BS sized guns. The same goes for smaller vessels. People don't design a battleship, only for someone to put a small gun on it; it doesn't make sense. A good example I can think of is the Thorax.
It can be fitted with a HUGE buffer if you use 1600mm plate, but the cost in PG means you have to downgrade to small guns. Given the ship has a 5% bonus to blaster damage per level, you end up losing a lot of damage compared to if you had medium guns. Having flown the Throax quite a lot, I've had to make the decision between big tank and low damage or smaller tank and lots of damage. Having the bonus applied to smaller guns would have probably led me to never ever fitting medium guns.

protip : pg4 lets you do both.

2nd protip: the light neutron blaster thorax isnt much dps lost compared to e.g. medium electron blasters.

This is a really bad idea and will screw up smaller ship pvp. ___

well imho the light neutron thorax is a very common fit. 350ish dps and enough buffer to cut through things.

All fine when your main targets are other cruisers and AF's - anything bigger and you'll need those med guns.
But yeah, depending on what you're doing and where, not a terrible fit.
