I think 15 bucks a month to play a game is a bit much for the 60,000 people who play the game daily. Thats $900,000 a month JUST for the daily players. what about the others who aren't on when everyone else is? $10 a month sounds a bit better for people like me who dont want to spend a portion our car insurance money on relieving (or adding in the case of lowsec) stress on free time. None the less there are people who need to get paid in the CCP and i can understand that. 15 dollars a month doesn't sound much, but it adds up. I recently check my total bill and it came up to be a bit suprising. Im guessing Pilots licence extensions would be the way to go then becuase by the time most people get there theyve paid their dues to CCP

Edited by: Dex Timor on 30/03/2010 20:41:06 I pay 11Ç a month. Though I pay for 12 months up front.
You could also switch to paying with PLEX. That way you can either pay with Isk or alternate Isk / cash payments to lower your per month expenditure.
I hope this helps.
Btw. You get free expansions in EvE, which is not the case for every MMO.
edit: lol, I should have read the OP before posting.
Nevertheless 15$ a month is 2x cinema a month (I guess you play more then 4 hours a month though).

I look at it like this: 14Ç are what?
- 2 or 3 beers at a bar - three quarters of a cinema ticket - a fifth of a regular single player PC game
So if EVE manages to entertain me for longer then one of the above then it's already worth it for me.

1. Why would it be too much? 2. If it is, why are you paying? 3. Even if you do keep paying, it doesn't have to be $15 a month.

Maybe, but do you think Eve runs on an old 486 hooked up to a 14.4k modem?
Having worked in the ISP industry I can tell you that it is NOT cheap to host an entire server farm, nor does the bandwidth and data come for free.

No offence, but are you really that hard up that you can't afford $15 off your entertainment bill for the month?
That's a few beers or a cinema trip and if your monthly budget really is that tight that it's Eve or your car insurance, then you have bigger problems tbh.

$15 per month seems like a reasonable ammount, and better still is the expansions that come at no extra cost and we don't have to pay to set-up an account either. I have 4 accounts and I am always broke, I don't complain about the cost of my 4 accounts though because if it became such an issue where I didn't want to pay that anymore then I would let some accounts go into stasis for a while. Last time I had to renew my subscriptions I used the timecode forum and paid with isk as a one off. CCP gives plenty of options for players to pay for their accounts and they even let you pay with isk so I really fail to see the issue.

$15 is pretty much the base industry standard. At least we don't pay for "expansions" like you would subbing to a Blizzard or SOE MMO, not that I'd really call most EVE expansions, "expansions" except when they added Wormholes, but regardless of what I would consider an "expansion" it's well worth the money.

Ah well, also shows you who comes from World of Lawlcraft.
If somebody wants to voice their thoughts, let them, don't be an ass on a serious matter.
Back on topic; 15 dollars isn't too much, in my honest opinion. You need to think on CCP's side of the table here too. Server farms aren't cheap, nor is the internet they require to give us the fast and reliable connection we use to play on in EVE. We're also getting free expansions which no other successful, large and entertaining MMO out there offers. Like some others mentioned, you could always take a little time to farm up the ISK and buy PLEXs, GTCs, etc, etc and pay that way. Many options, just need to look a little harder.

Edited by: Davin Airitsu on 30/03/2010 22:47:17 They charge us $14.95 a month and give us free expansions each year, roleplayed game news, close community communication (dev blogs etc) and they also allow us to spend in-game money to cover that charge!
Do I really need to mention "that" game? The one that charges you $50 USD on top of your monthly fee for half an expansion and then spend 2 years releasing the main parts of the advertised content (such as the boss the whole expansion is centered around). The lack of any dynamic game content. Heck they won't even speak with you unless you pay for a ticket to their convention.

The price is ok. If you're finding it too much you can switch to a longer term subscription, or start buying PLEXes. Its not nearly as hard to earn the cash for these as I had thought back when I was a rookie pilot. I'd say in 3-6 months nearly all players should be able to finance their account this way, or even sooner if they come up with some clever ways to earn ISK.

I think you're being a tad unfair here. Both CCP and the "othergame" developers are both very good at communicating through various channels including their official forums. Nearly every day you can find posts from developers or their representatives on various in-game issues. And in my experience they're faster to fix things that are considered broken by general consensus of the playerbase too.
Sure the Eve expansions are free, but they don't always deliver massive amounts of content, and are more like other MMO's content patches rather than full fledged expansions. Take Dominion for instance. The new content amounted to two tutorials, and 2(?)pirate epic arcs. The rest was a whole load of balancing changes, and a change to the sovereignty system. I'd have been rather insulted if I was asked to pay extra for that. Hopefully Tyrannis' planet management minigame adds a bit more to the play experience.
Anyway, long story short. Free Eve expansions =/ Paid for "other MMO" expansions. Apples and oranges. Eve's a great game that should stand on its own merits, and not have to constantly denigrate other games in the genre.

I pay aprox 11 dollar a month, or about 131 dollar a year. One time fees are the best fees. And its a year till the next.
Personally I think 15 dollar a month for EVE is a good fee. Certainly when you have to consider CCPs investments to be able to run it properly!

Actually 60 000 is more like the PCU, the peak concurrent users, meaning 60 000 online at that one moment. The total number of registered accounts is closer to 350 000.
Let's be conservative and take away 150 000 inactive accounts, that leaves us with 200 000.
200 000 x $15 = $3 000 000
Three million dollars a month.

Solution #2: * You shouldn't have signed up for a game you can't afford (Its only $15, how are you surviving in RL???)
