ok, 15$ a month IS alot, I mean after all in 4 months that's 60$ about the cost of a new console game which lasts you maybe 20-30 hours... *shrug* spend less time complaining and more time making isk and buy plex.

Originally by: Mister LAME-ONz I think 15 bucks a month to play a game is a bit much for the 60,000 people who play the game daily. Thats $900,000 a month JUST for the daily players. what about the others who aren't on when everyone else is? $10 a month sounds a bit better for people like me who dont want to spend a portion our car insurance money on relieving (or adding in the case of lowsec) stress on free time. None the less there are people who need to get paid in the CCP and i can understand that. 15 dollars a month doesn't sound much, but it adds up. I recently check my total bill and it came up to be a bit suprising. Im guessing Pilots licence extensions would be the way to go then becuase by the time most people get there theyve paid their dues to CCP

Amen x 10,000 x 25.
That's a lot of amen's. Most MMO's aren't worth 15 bucks a month, EVE is.

Well MMO's are not going to stay $15 a month forever, if anything we will be paying more eventually not less. I believe the new Funcom MMO in the works, The Secret World is going to use a $20 per month model which may set a new standard for other MMO pricing to follow...or they will totally shoot themselves in the foot and alienate a large chunk of a potential player base, I guess time will tell on that one.

How hard can it be to make 270mil a month? With a retriever and 2 hours a day you can make that and a surplus in a month. Some people....

Originally by: Takseen I think you're being a tad unfair here. Both CCP and the "othergame" developers are both very good at communicating through various channels including their official forums. Nearly every day you can find posts from developers or their representatives on various in-game issues. And in my experience they're faster to fix things that are considered broken by general consensus of the playerbase too.
Only true if you're a US citizen. Europeans don't have access to the US forums. There used to be daily whine-posts about their lack of interest in feedback from european players. Also, before the first expansion, there really was zero communication with the community. I think they had a change in management then.
Originally by: Takseen Sure the Eve expansions are free, but they don't always deliver massive amounts of content, and are more like other MMO's content patches rather than full fledged expansions. Take Dominion for instance. The new content amounted to two tutorials, and 2(?)pirate epic arcs. The rest was a whole load of balancing changes, and a change to the sovereignty system. I'd have been rather insulted if I was asked to pay extra for that.
Yes. Even Apocrypha, which I'd consider one of the better expansions isn't something I'd want to pay for. Why? Because it didn't offer content for everybody. Sure I checked out a couple of wormholes, but mostly that stuff didn't affect me.

So if EVE manages to entertain me for longer then one of the above then it's already worth it for me.
Read through, saw this, did a double take! Where do you live that charges 14 Euros for 3/4 of a cinema ticket?? 62 quid for a PC game is also a rip off btw :D
$15/month is reasonable. Pay for longer subscription terms and you pay even less! I pay for a year at a time on my main account in Euros and think I pay in the region of Ç11/month or something.

I personally break it down by day. It costs about 50 cents a day to play eve. I spend more on cigarettes and beer than that. I used to spend more on arcade games than that, and played them for less time than eve. $15 a month sounds fair to me.

If you think the subscriptions too much. Then you need to improve your income if you miss that much a month going out on a game.

This tbfh.
Also dont know if this is a standard, but we make a deposit when we buy glass bottles and sodacans etc. This deposit is around 30 cents per bottle/sodacan, so you really only need to collect like 2 bottles/cans per day, to be able to play eve :) Atleast if you live in denmark!

I'm not smacking/trolling the OP and nor do I have a superiority complex - I'm being deadly serious.
If the $15 you spend on Eve is causing you to choose between Eve and your car insurance then you either have an income problem or a lifestyle problem and if the truth hurts, well that's too bad.
Ah well, also shows you who comes from World of Lawlcraft.

It really depends on a few things:
The most important one would be the your geo-location. I.E: I live in Romania, here 1e is 4 lei. 15e its 60lei, with 60 lei you buy (in terms of beers) 12 beers. Minimum wage is 200e/month, medium wage is 250-300e/month.
Taking that into account, lets say you have a family (1 kid), you pay for 50% of the montly expenses (assuming your wife does the rest) and you try to save some up. If you do have a family and you work 8h/day you dont really have time to play much so lets say the GTC option is outta the question.
So throwing away 15e a month (in the above situation) is a pretty big deal.
--
If you are single, working man(gal) then there is no problem supporting an eve account. If you are still living with your folks, then depends if they want to pay for your gaming habit (although, given the average age in eve: 25 ) they wouldn't.
--
If you live in the states - rally urban like Manhattan - and you make 5000k a month, yes you can pay.
I really hope that answers your questions.

while i agree that romania has a totally different infrastructure and economy, it makes no sense that its more expensive to be in a familiy, since the price per person decreases with the ammount of people in the family! said in other words, it is more expensive to be single, than paired up :)
anyways, i am a father of 2 just to put it in perspective, but i know that we live in 2 different worlds, i.e. minimum wage is 200 euros in romania vs. around 2000 euros in denmark. actually we have no minimum monthly wage, we have a minimum hourly wage, which is around 12 euros!
(so 12*37+*4+ = around 2000 euros, if you work full time!)

I do wish they would balance the cost between Euros and Dollars though. It costs $15/mo and 15 Euros/mo, so those of us who have to pay in Euros end up paying $20/mo, which is a tad unfair.
But yea, it's not that expensive really. ----------------------- Yea, Tho I Walk Through The Valley Of The Shadow Of Death, I Shall Fear No Evil |

Exactly, no one is twisting any one's arm to make them play ffs...
Besides, I've discovered that small children really can live on less food so if you feed them only on odd days of the week you can easily save money for the important stuff...

Honestly EvE has the best payment plan out there besides Guild Wars. I just figured out my GW bill, about 4 bucks a month total USD, and that includes the collectors edition. Right across all accounts on eve I'm at about 9 bucks a month with EvE and I don't have to subscribe, but every once in a while I treat myself to a GTC. I've also brought 2 friends in the game who have not had to pay at all. It's really a great system, and I dont think the 30 bucks that CCP ultimately gets a month is too much for 2 accounts.
Looking at it from JUST an IT standpoint, the number of items I have in both of my databases is re****ulous. Too support the resources of us all playing on one server is an amazing task in itself. Exclusive feature/IT nightmare. This is clearly a signature. |

I think the price of one account is too high in EvE, a game that encourages you to have mutiple accounts through various means. Nobody is forcing anyone to buy multiple acounts, but game mechanics give you a distinct advantage if you do.
For example, I belong to an industrial corp in which I am the only player with one account. There's no point in me training for an ORCA for example because of that fact. The result is that I can't contribute the same as the other guys to a mining op. It sucks, but I'll be damned if I will buy multiple accounts to play one game.
