So, I bought a Federation Navy Comet from the LP store because I had a boatload of LP sitting around and I thought it was cute. It has racing stripes and a flashing blue light! What's not to love?
I didn't figure I'd use it, except maybe sometimes just to take out and fly around admiring how shiny it is. I was going to fit it out for Awesome just so I could admire that too, but I didn't see myself using it in combat - I've been missioning lately in a Myrmidon and a Dominix, and while I plan to get into PvP at some point, there's no way I can afford to fly faction ships into beginner PvP.
But then I noticed that I was one, maybe two storyline missions away from getting the faction standings for the highsec POS of my dreams.
Time to blitz some high-speed level 1s, I figured - and hey, why not try out the Comet?
I'm here to tell you, I'm in love. It's as much of a droneboat as the Vexor was when I first started flying cruisers (since, hey, my drone skills sucked) but it's fast like a frigate, I got it cap stable with weapons + afterburner + armour repairer etc with no rigs and almost no effort... I haven't even rigged it yet because I can't decide what to put there. It's perfect already.
And it still has racing stripes and a flashy light.
It's too little for serious missions, but I think it's my favourite ship ever now anyway.

It's a pity it only has the bandwidth for 3 light drones.

The best part is you can fly up next to someone...

I rigged it with hybrid metastasis and locus rigs and a ccc, and loved doing L 1 2 3 in one.

That's pleasingly similar to my own fit, for the most part (though I can't use T2 drones yet, haven't rigged it, and have mods from different factions).
I'm nervous of the idea of running L2s in it, though. It's so shiny and I'd be heartbroken if it got blown up, when I could just be running L3s and L4s in my Myrmidon/Dominix instead. (Sure, technically they both retail at a higher price than Federation Navy Comets go for on the contract market, but it's my first ever faction ship, so it has sentimental value, you know?)
Oddly nervous, given I occasionally use it for high-risk, high-speed rushes through L3/4 missions where the objective is just "pick up this item from this box"... sure, it's pretty safe going at ~1.2km/s, but the paint has still gotten a little scratched at least once.
