It is a binary star system with Beta Centauri and orbited by Proxima Centauri.
Do you think mankind will ever be able to travel their, maybe even build jump gates like we see in EVE Online. Your opinions on this please.

Funy thing, Alpha Centauri is NOT the closest star to Earth or the solar system. The closest star to the solar system is Proxima Centauri. And the closest star to the Earth is, well, *cough* the Sun (Sol)

I wonder what kind of life could exist in such a system? Maybe something creepy like mind worms?

You are right Akita, but Proxima Centauri is at the moment the closest Star to Earth but I still consider it part of same star system as Alpha and Beta Centauri are.

Edited by: illford baker on 02/04/2010 18:43:27 he is right, proxima centauri is the closest, but it does not have planets, nor does alpha centauri. the epsilon eridani with a gas giant and a asteroid belt. pretty cool http://www.3dgalaxymap.com/Galaxy/
