Ahhh loved it. Used my char from ME1 to play through ME2... its weird how involved you get. I didnt want to romance any of the other chars from 2 because I wanted to stay "loyal" to Ashley.
I like my choices from that savegame... I do have a question tho, if anyone knows the answer. If I use that ME2 endgame save (or character, or whatever) to go through ME2 again... does that overwrite all my choices/options/stuff I do? Or does it create a new char (thus creating 2) that I could import into ME3 whenever it comes?

well.. I still hope that the old ME2 topic will be unlocked... perhaps pruned a little (there were quite a bit of spam on the last page and a half).
... but till then, this will suffice.
I felt that ME2 was a lot more limited than ME1...
1: the ammo-change. the old way worked remarkably well. could perhaps had done well with some tweaking, but it worked well.
2: gear in general... well, the ME1 system was definitely not alright either... but it had a lot more customization.
3: there were several missions that you had no choice in when you wanted to take them. just a 'sorry captain, the illusive man wants to talk with you.' screw him, I'm running this show! in the end, I was a little too eager to get Legion. so I had to choose whether to save the crew, or get all of squadmates loyal... poor Kelly.
4: Levelling... was a lot more fun in ME1. (also, why do I still get XP when I've hit lvl 30.)
5: after I finished the game, it didn't really remember much at all. in the first game, you got to keep pretty much everything, weapons, armor, mods, skills, money, resources... in ME2, you only get to keep skills, and some heavy weapons. no other weapons or upgrades, no money or resources (except the ones you get for finishing ME1/ME2).. you do get to keep some armor-pieces though.
I have also yet to manage a horizontal mamba... first run through I wanted Kelly. turns out you can't get an achievement out of her. second run through, I went for Tali, but still ended up looking at my photo of Liara.

It'll do remarkably well on moderate hardware, it's simply using a modified Unreal Engine 3 core, so unless your PC is really old, it should run at least moderately well. Running it with all the bells and whistles looks better for obvious reasons, but the story is the part that counts.

I had a problem with ME1, I have decent hardware but my video card is an odd case for ME1, their system requirements listed cards that weren't as good as I have and some that were better so I bought it. I tried to play ME1 but it wouldn't work, so after searching their forums and knowledge base for a couple hours for a solution I found a KB article listing my card as incompatible. What sucked is they didn't put it in the system requirements like the others they listed. I got a refund from direct2drive though. So I have a feeling I won't be able to play ME2 either :(

I can't speak for how your card will treat the game, but I have a 9-series GeForce card and I'm pretty sure ME2 performed better on my computer than ME1 did. It's strange. -----

I replayed mass effect 1 just before the release of mass effect 2 to have a save-game for the computer as I rented it on the xbox first but when I saw the steam offer I thought why the hell not. What I noticed is that ME1 didn't run as smoothly on my laptop while ME2 runs almost flawless. This might be due to missing dual-core support in ME1 but I'm not an expert on that subject.
To me Mass Effect 2 was awesome, I spend some 35+ hours in total into the game however 5 of those hours might have been for the amazingly boring exploration feature to find the materials to research new weapons and upgrades.
The story was very good but I found the end so predictable that I almost fell out of my chair, that being said the dialogue and cut-scenes are awesome and the added ability of making a quick-time decisions led to a lot of nice scenes (especially when playing renegade).
To be honest the main story is quite thin and fast paced but the side quests and side stories make it for most of it. However when I did everything on the side the game started too feel a little hollow as there was nothing to do any more except well finish the game, which is what mass effect 1 didn't have because you could always revisit planets to find things you might have missed the 1st time.

ATI 2600XT, unfortunately it's the odd card out on ME1, I'll check out ME2's specs but probably won't work :(
I'd like to actually get ME1 first though since you get to keep the same character stuff in ME2.

It's one of many instances in ME2 where the charm option is really quite a **** move. -----
