This is what CCP's EVE Gate intends to be eventually.

Well, the settings aren't stored in the EVE folder, so you're losing those every time you play on another computer. You could probably work around that with a batch file somehow, but it's probably not that great to have the eve cache on the stick (since it puts extra strain on the flash memory). Maybe a combination of a userspace ramdisk for the cache and a batch file mover for the configuration data would do the trick.
The usb-drive I'm using for all my personal data isn't large enough though, so I haven't bothered figuring this out yet.

Create a shortcut and add /LUA:OFF at the end. That should keep the settings in the EVE folder.

Does that work now days? Back in the old days shortcuts on removable media would just keep linking to the computer they were made at. But a batch file should work for that.

if you copy your eve registry setting and make a registry key that should work. set all grafix to lowest settings etc, save everything in one folder. This is clearly a signature. |

Missing directx file perchance? You may need to copy+paste a .dll file into the executable directory.
Without knowing what error you are getting, there is very little we can do to help you. ----------

there was a program that could make executibles of whole programs for the sake of running off a thumb drive or a DVD-Rom/DVD-RAM drive. May want to try looking into that.
Normally you do have to up whatever the minimum system requirements for whatever your wanting to run to accomadate for the extra stress the computer would suffer -------------- (Insert whatever you want here) |

DirectX End-User Runtime(Redistributable)
Either keep a copy of that installer on your drive, or download and run separately on each machine.
This program will simply install all of the various directX runtime versions that exist; most games will place their relevant runtimes on the computer during their respective installer (including EVE) - that program will simply deal with all of them at once.

Huh? Why so complicated?
All you have to do is run DXSETUP.exe in EVE\bin\DirectX once.

Or that.
The error posted is not uncommon when it comes to skipping direct installations of many games; so i tend to give the same advice for treating it. It is significantly easier in the long run and can save a fair bit of hassle.
Even seem to recall some game not actually including file #26 (or was it 24?) so you had to go and do this.
And 'complicated'? It is basically download program from Microsoft's website which is ranked #3 on downloads, and run installer. Save installer for later use if you want.

Great app but a huge memory hog and no settings to turn off auto-startup. I used a task-killer app to shut it down but it starts itself back up over and over again. In the end I just had to uninstall it.

I experience no such issues with the app
The funny thing about this sentence is that by the time you've finished reading it, it's too late for you to realise it doesn't say anything. |

I,
Like the idea and im going to do it,
but allot of people say that you can get lag from running on usb drive but not on a flash usb 2.0 drive.
is this true?
If you can link you're usb drive that you use and find extremely sufficent for eve.

;P
and if i can make a bootable windows flash drive then making one that boots eve and dx9.3 or< shouldnt be a problem at all |

Red file? Huh?
You tried running DXSETUP.exe in EVE\bin\DirectX as I mentioned above and that didn't work? Because that's the thing that happens when you install EVE the first time, so it really should work. -
