Ipad is just Apples latest release of Ihype. It can't load flash. Meaning no streaming videos except for you tube, which has a specific app for it. It can't multi-task. It can't use any non-apple approve peripherals.
yes i know all of this..i was looking for people to recommend me a good netbook or mini table >.> |

Even though you might disagree with what I say, that doesn't automatically make me a troll. |

What are you looking to get out of it in general use, if it's just web and email then an iPad would probably be ok if you aren't to bothered about flash not being supported, but the iPad has a few limitations aside from not supporting flash, no smart card support, and no multitasking.
Flash support isn't to much of a deal breaker for me, lack of smart card support I find a little more puzzling, but I think it will be addressed in later builds.
No multitasking could be a problem, the iPad uses the iPhone OS so while it doesn't support multitasking it does return you to where you were while you were using an app when you go back to it, but for me personally while the lack of flash wouldn't be a deal breaker this would. It's surprising to me Apple didn't tweak the OS to get some sort of limited multitasking, why I dont know, possibly the cost of a better processor and ram to handle the extra workload that multitasking creates?
Also I have just gotten my hands on a MacBook pro and between that and my iPod Touch I just couldn't justify an iPad or any tablet/netbook for that matter.
You're an eve player so I'm guessing your use and needs would probably get you to the same opinion as me and no multitasking is a big problem.
If I had to get a tablet as much as I would like an iPad I think I would wait to see what the HP Slate has to offer.
Just curious as to what your needs and budget are?

I'm pretty happy with the Acer Aspire ONE netbook. It comes in some flavors, there's a version with 3G card built-in (you have to check in your country). It's a pretty nifty machine for 269 Euro.

Actually, the iPhone OS has always been able to multitask, and the Apple base apps (mail, music, phone, etc..) are always running in the background, but it has been purposefully disabled for third party applications - allegedly to save battery life and prevent third party programs from hogging juice in the background inadvertedly.
However, one of the rumored new features in the upcoming version 4.0 of the OS, is precisely allowing third party programs to multitask.

Yeah that's how it was meant to work but it's not true multitasking as we understand it in relation to general PC use, I've always thought that sooner or later Apple would come up with a solution that would allow the iPhone/iPod Touch, and now the iPad to do it properly, be interesting to see what the new version brings, I'd still like to play with an iPad but as I said in my previous post between my PC, MacBook Pro, and iPod Touch I'd really can't find a use for it to justify buying one, but I do have a wife who thinks it looks cool so who knows.
Just thinking that if your a professional couch potato the iPad or some other leight weight tablet would be ideal.

you have 2 basic options based on how much power vs battery life you want. Atom will provide you with very good battery life, while a mini laptop with a core duo will give you more power, but less batt life.
check out the new i3 laptops, they are tiny and the cpu has a built in video card. they are a little more expensive though.
they are essentially all the same though, low power usage, weak systems that you can install either linux or windows on from usb key. in the end the only thing that makes a difference is waranty (recomend asus or dell) and build quality (asus, dell, toshiba is ok too).
I know a few people that got tired of tablets and just used them as a laptop before selling them. its nice for people that actually need to write or draw on the screen but sort of useless otherwise.

thanks for the sugegstions everyone, time to narrow it down a bit
id like somthing like the archos 5 in terms of size, but with an actual os such as linux or windows on it (or preferably a device that i can isntall whatever i want on), if there is one with ether a slide out keyboard, or larger screen, that would be preferable, and id like somthing wtih one or two usb inputs that accept standard keyboard and mouse.

You didn't say you wanted only tablet recommendations still
The only thing I can think of that's remotely what you're after is this but it was released in 2006 and is obviously discontinued now. Beyond that I haven't been keeping up with more modern developments tablet wise (barring iPad) so can't make any further recommendations.
