Please note: This application is still in alpha testing and backups of settings files are essential
EVESync is a new application designed to keep your settings synchronised on multiple computers for applications such as EVEMon.
The problem I play Eve on my desktop and macbook and i also have EVEMon installed on another PC. The problem i had was when i made a change to EVEMon on my mac, i would also have to make the same change on my PC or go through the whole backup settings and copy on to the pc.
The solution This application asks you for a username/password (which you create with the app), downloads your settings from EVESync.co.uk and then opens EVEMon for you. Once EVEMon closes (which is detected by the application), it will upload the settings to EVESync.co.uk
Provided the same version of EVEMon is installed on all machines, using my application will allow you to keep them synchronised.
The application is fully functioning however at this stage it really just needs some testing and I just want to get an idea of whether people are interested in such an application before spending more time on the project.
Download link: (Please backup your EVEMon settings before using this application and keep regular backups as its still in a very early version)

Just a suggestion that you use something better than MD5 which has know security problems. It probably doesn't really matter on something like this but it's been recommended for the last couple years or more that new applications use something stronger since it's been shown that MD5 can be broken in a reasonable amount of time in current computers. SHA1 is still probably secure enough for something like this but it'll be next to fall though the longer versions are still considered secure for now. I would just hate to see something that many people will probably find useful, including me, have a known weakness like that in it when it is easy to prevent. -- Finds camping stations from the inside much easier. This was my first thought too. MD5 *really* shouldn't be used for anything any more.

Thanks for the feedback.
I agree about MD5 and to be honest, should have updated to SHA1 before posting. You'll be glad to know that I've changed the application and service to use SHA1 so you can be sure that its stored safely.

Taking the opportunity from this thread, I would like to point out that EVEMon can be operated portably (not mobile as many describe it) if you place it in a USB stick and put the settings file in the same folder. This is why we provide also the binaries edition together with the installer one. This way you can have the same version and settings on all of your comp.
This of course doesn't conflict with the usefulness of this app. As I mentioned also in the related battleclinic post, time will tell about it.
P.S. Posts have been emerged on the ways to use this app, which I find very interesting.

If i'm honest I wasn't aware that the settings file could go with the EVEMon exe but saying that, I would have still written this application.
I'm not charging for the service and the option is there. There are plans to expand the application to also cover tools like EFT (which i know can also be used from a USB device).
At the end of the day i think EVEMon is a great application and the ability to use it from a USB device is a nice feature however i would prefer to keep my computers using the same settings file without having to move a USB key with me each time. I know there's also the network option but I use my laptop at work sometimes so that wouldn't really work for me.
I will be posting a guide on how the application works and some screenshots for those people not sure about downloading. Any questions are more than welcome either on here or via EVE Mail

I think EVEMon can be installed portable on a usb stick, just move your settings folder into the EVEMon folder. --------------------------------------------- Xeross' ventures into EVE |
