kind of funny how a bunch of truck drivers brought the whole country to a standstill, they'd never get away with it these days
I loved it tho 'cause it meant the buses stopped running and I had a few days off school. hard to believe that was a decade ago

If you're going to rant at people, at least get it right.
In the UK, fuel tax as of September 2009 was 56p per litre, and it has since gone up by another 1p per litre to 57p. 17.5% VAT is also charged on this, making the total tax on a litre of fuel 67p.
Now, at my last fill-up I paid 117.9p per litre. So 57% of everything you pay for fuel is tax. 57%. That's a colossal amount of tax. You're paying more for tax than you are for the petrol itself!
As for your argument about oil prices: bull****. In 2008, crude oil had an average price of over 91USD per barrel (peaking at over 126USD). In 2009 it dropped sharply to about 53.50USD per barrel, and it is now starting to rise again, with a price of 72.90USD in March. Still nowhere near as high as it got in 2008. People put up with high fuel prices because of this illusion that oil prices are at an all-time high. That's wrong. They're not.
And your point is what exactly?
Like I said before, NO ONE on either side of the political divide will lower the fuel tax. EVER. It just wont happen, live with it or buy a bike (push variety). Like I stated before, the highness of the fuel tax + the VAt if you want, pays for all the stuff that you dont want to see coming out of your paypacket directly through PAYE. This is why fuel is considered a luxery purchase. What is it about that you fail to understand exactly? Blame this govt if you want, but if you vote the other fella in he wont be any different, not one little bit. In fact, he will be exactly the same. Come the next budget, he WILL increase fuel duty (as well as tobacco, booze etc). Petrol is currently so high because the companies can get away with charging it as you keep paying it... but whats the alternative? Bikes or public transport. They guess (and quite rightly too) that regardless of the price you'll keep paying it (like I do). The fact that crude is $84 now compared to 2008 is mostly irrevelant. The tax on that has only gone up but 2% over those 2 years. That doesnt equate to anywhere near the rises we currently have. So, ergo, it must be the fuel companies making the money. And why shouldnt they? No one is forcing you to pay their prices, you do it willingly. They are a business after-all, not a charity. So, motorists, stop ya whinging and pay the price or buy an eco transport system and get healthy.
I love it when morons complain about fuel prices. No one whinges better than a motorist.

Remember you said that when whoever gets in after the UK election starts hammering us with stealth and more obvious taxes, whilst continuing to line their own pockets and offer tax breaks for their rich mates.
Truck drivers protesting won't be the half of it.
The next revolution will be podcast... well... the riots will be at any rate.

Yeah, tbh I don't even know who I'm going to vote for. Labour+Conservative might as well be the same party, Lib Dems just seem to want a piece of the cake and will say anything to get it and any other party isn't worth even mentioning. I guess I'll go Lib Dems anyway, least of the evils and all that
all UK politicians are filthly liars IMO. I don't think it matters who gets in, they'll still attempt to solve all of the world's problems by raising taxes (alcohol tax to stop binge drinking, fuel duty to combat climate change, etc)

Well, a hung parliament could work. (Who the **** am I kidding? Not myself.)
But I'd sooner rather Vince Cable as Chancellor of the Exchequer as opposed to a member of the Thunderbirds.
I just got a Plaid Cymru leaflet through the post though, . I wasn't even aware people voted for them.

I want the LibDems to win aswell, but honestly I would settle for whoever wins to either make Cable Chancellor or to just bloody listen to the man. He's actualy worked in the private sector and learned from it, he was talking about the house price collapse years ago...

Just spent the last 2 months living (and driving) in the UK. Brought my old Chevy van over to Europe 6 years ago, kept the American plates and registration because its cheaper and you can do it by mail.
Yeah, I feel sorry for the Brits because it doesn't really matter who you elect. I listen to the environmental faith-based pap spouted by your so-called 'conservatives' (like Cameron and Mayor Boris) and I shiver to imagine how nutty your left-wing must be.
Your already insanely high taxes are going to be higher in your future. They want you in ****-weak no-fun greenmobiles (or better yet, on the bus), and then when gasoline revenues dry up they'll find something else to tax to make sure you don't climb the economic ladder TOO quickly. Of course, the rich and connected will continue to have their air-conditioned V-8s.
I looked it up, out of morbid curiousity. Car tax: Britain, 405+ pounds a year + MOTs. Car tax: Alaska, depending on locality, $65 for TWO years.
Seriously, you guys are getting skinned alive by your own leadership and you just take it. I don't know if I should laugh or cry.

I'm sorry but I know you're lying, my truthful Labour (and previously Conservative!) government has told me so! It's never stopped raining in Wales, why should it elsewhere?
