I'm using the dual monitor feature via the 3840x1080 resolution with 2 identical 24 inch 1920x1080 monitors. The computer is an Alienware Aurora R3 with dual Nvida.
I have found these "non-technical" bugs/design issues:
1. The sign on screen has no position controls and so the username and password is split with half on one monitor and half on the other.
2. The charactor selection screen has the same issue however the impact is lessened because only the EvE logo is split.
3. The "Camera Center Control" for the in-space settings, which also affects the ship hanger cannot be set to center. The control uses a 10%, 20%, etc. slider however due to the padding on each side allowing for the size of the ship none of the choices including the 50% will center the interface correctly on one monitor. A common setup is to center (try) the ship UI on one monitor and all the windows on the other. The ship UI is off center.
4. In the hanger view the "zoom in" is exagerated while the "zoom out" can't in the case of large ships zoom out far enough to see the entire ship. In both hanger and space the zoom is not remembered and always defaults to zoomed way in.
5. The jukebox window will not reopen if left open when logging, this may be an issue with all monitor settings.
6. Same as #5 the ship cargo, the one opened with shift click, doesn't reopen in position after logging.
7. In CQ mode the range of the camera center control is not enough to move the charactor to the center of either monitor. The CQ is more or less unusable in dual mode, everything is split in the middle. In as much as any CQ can be a show stopper, this is a show stopper for CQ.
8. The area represented by the secondary monitor experiences snow on the backdrop only, not on ships or windows. This seems to be tied to something in the ship hanger. I've confirmed this is not my hardware by switching the monitors, it happens to the device set as the "secondary" in Windows and it only affects certain art items on the screen; mostly static backdrops and icons. I realize this is a needle in the haystack kind of thing.
9. When opening a planet view in PI the zoom is once again to far in, you have to zoom out.
Wish List: 1. Having things "snap too" an imaginary margin on the sides to the monitors that meet in the middle like windows snap to the margins on the bottom and top edges.
2. Having the "edge region" where the icons collect when you are in space and a thing is behind you be only on the "centered monitor" rather than have them run around the edge of the entire dual monitor space. In other words the bracket items would behave as if there was only one monitor.
3. Assuming a layout where the users ship is in one monitor, with controls centered on the monitor, and the users in game windows are all on the other monitor add this has a "mode". In this mode:
a) The window monitor has no background or art, behind the windows it is black, this improves performance since in this layout most the second monitor is usually covered with windows.
b) The game play monitor behaves just like a single monitor. I'm an American, English is my second language... |
