Hey everyone, IVe currently got a carebare miner that is a hulk pilot and im wanting to get more into the combat side of EVE aswell, My main arguments for keeping with Current Character is that Ive got a fair few learnign skills and I can use Tech 2 Drones, the bad thing is though I want to use amarr ships and being a Caldari character I have no amarr ship or weapon skills So i would need to completely start from scratch, and Ill also get the exp bonus for first 1.6mil
Anyway.. what would you guys do?

Continue with the current one, it will always be faster than starting a new char as you will have a lot of useful skills trained already (learning, mechanics, electronics, spaceship command and so on) that you might not even think about so it will definitely not be starting from scratch.

Well we can very easily do the math.
A new character starts out with 56k sp, you mentioned at least 550k (t2 drones), now add
- Learning skills - Fitting skills - Cap skills - Navigation skills - HP skills. (remember just because you wanna fly Amarr it doesn't mean you shouldn't have Shield Operation/Management to V)
A new character will get a double training speed up to 1.6m sp, so that's essentially (1.6m - 56k)/2 (or approx 775k) free sp.
So if all those 5 categories I mentioned comes up to more than those 225k (775k - 550k from the t2 drones), there's not really much point in starting a new character. At least not sp wise, some people may have OCD and start over because their skillsheet will look very cluttered.

Edited by: David88x77 on 17/04/2010 08:44:10 Keep this stuff in mind:
If you are planning on pvp, then if people get kill rights on you then they can blow up your hulk without punishment.
If you are going to do stuff which causes a loss to sec status, then you may not be able to carebear mine anymore.
You would have to move your toon around[or grind standing/jump clone] back and forth between the place you mine at and the place you mission/pvp out of.
If you do train for Amarr ships, then you will get better armor tanking skills/gunnery/ship skills. All of these skills will add armor and structure hp, improve or make it easier to move into hybrid turrets if you choose and will enable some pirate ships.
You may want your combat toon to be in a different corporation which is more pvp oriented instead of industry.
