On the ocean tides work to slowly move all floating wreckage and garbage to one location.
It's reasonable that perhaps gravity and solar wind could conspire to form garbage belts. For these purposes we'll pretend these belts are between stars but will infact be on the furthest edge of a system in a constellation.
Wrecks and cans will remain where they are created for the amount of time they currently do. But when they despawn all wrecks and cans from a constellation will respawn in the garbage belt. When emptied the Belt will respawn somewhere else as it's no longer being held together with it's own gravity.
There cheaper rigs, less people ninja'ing your loot and something neat to probe down.

and please, please make em salvagable for parts, and metals you can reprocess onto further, there might also be a ships you could analyce, and theyr cargo door would open, releaseing theyr cargo hold for more materials. Make it true scrapyards. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - --- "Theres a forklift in your mind" - B5 parody |

You mean like having an anomalous NPC wreck being the gravitic key stone that holds the player wrecks together?

I can see this working as a type of exploration site, wrecks of varying fleet sizes or one huge wrecked ship, as if a battle in deep space had happened or something a little more mysterious.

This.
Also, what the OP said-- +1
Sounds cool. Make it a normal celestial, like a belt or moon? Add to it if there was a massive fight, or several smaller fights in a day? \o |

Sounds good. Will add more sci-fi immersion to the game IMO.

Actually, lot of magnetometric sites are like that. Floating wrecks and you are able to salvage them.

+1 Me likey.
Make it so that NPC wrecks go to the belt as well so that we can watch the ninjas wardec eachother over the spoils at mission hubs.

+1 from me...I like this idea, it could also open up some new missions -or- new exploration opportunities...and it would be a good laugh watching ninja-salvagers pod each other for the scraps!

i like, but would the contents be better as random otherwise the only place worth searching for these sites would be in the L4 mission hubs and local systems

Mission hubs would definitely have good graveyards. But the competition for those belts would be fierce because we already know that. Other area's might generate decent and neglected belts. And the 400+ NPC's destroyed per hour in some 0.0 systems don't all get salvaged.
The point of it not being random is to allow for player generated content.

Too much server based information, more lag, making the game worse. Nice idea though, try scanning for mag sites.

a 1000 objects on one grid is still better much better then a 1000 objects scattered across a 1000 of grids. Mag sites don't go up and down with people desire to salvage their wrecks, they don't contain curious anomalies like cans of ore or bait cans.
It's like... It's like mining but still less available then mining and offering more interesting and less predictable rewards. It can be worthless or it can be an unprecedented windfall.
We can even cap the possibilities. When the belt blooms to 1000 wrecks, 500 wrecks vanish into the "Keystone" NPC wreck and become 500 scrap metal.
Limiting Server load and making the belts value grow on a curve rather then a scaling mountain of ISK.
And won't anyone think of how great it would be for the health of 0.0 markets? How redundant it would make "Abandon Wreck?"
Besides it's easily 3x more cool then Mag sites as they are and we should all bow before the "Rule of Cool"
