Edited by: Arawindor III on 17/04/2010 20:55:32 Hi to all, From a pair of week (I can't remember the exact day when the issue started) when I'm out of station with any kind of ships I see some graphics error: - out of station (when the station is back the ship) I see the ship is covered by the station - I always can see inside the ship (I see the internal opposite side of the ships). For example you can see the solar panel of the opposite side of this cyclone: Cyclone Graphical Issues I try to change all the graphical settings (high, low, none, with or without all the graphics option) but the bug doesn't disappear. Some advice?
Edit: when I spin the ship in space, this bug appear and disappear. Most frequently appear when the sun in the camera view.

Confirming i'm seeing the same issue, it started around the same time. In addition, stations are bugged, I can see into and sometimes through them - particularly on minmatar stations. It's not impairing my pew, but it hurts my eyes :(
EDIT a reset of the graphics settings(button in esc menu) has solved the station problems, my ship, however, is still transperant/flashing whenever there's a model behind it

Have you tried changing the 'interval' setting, at all? I seem to remember reading something about the interval setting impacting textures and stuff, but, if I remember correctly, I was somewhat drunk at the time, so I may be totally wrong!

I'm having the same problem. Tried all the various interval settings, and all the different z-buffer options as well and nothing's worked.
I've also done some interweb searches and haven't found much on this topic that I haven't already tried.

Same issue. Playing on new 21.5" iMac with 4GB of ram and the ATI Radeon HD 4670 graphics card. Nothing seems to fix the problem other than rotating the screen in order to get sun out of picture. My older 20" iMac with the X1600 card doesn't have this problem at all though. What's the deal?

Same thing happening for me too.
ATI Radeon HD 4850 video card.
And it also started happening only recently, perhaps with one of the Apple updates?
Is anyone experiencing this issue and is NOT using an ATI video card? I looked on the ATI site and I couldn't find a way to get a driver update.
Been talking with the GMs via petitions, they don't think it's the fact that it's an ATI video card but I'm starting to see more people with the same issue. I'll link this thread next time they respond to me.
If you have been having this graphics issue, do you also get somewhat frequent client crashes for seemingly no reason at all? Because I have, and I have not been able to figure out the cause and it's getting real bad. If I play for more than 10 minutes I need to force quit EVE because it will not close down on it's own when I ask it to.
I've changed my settings to max performance, max quality, and I've reset all settings and deleted the preference folder and it still persists through all of these. Although when the graphics are on really high you need to be some distance away (camera-wise) before the error manifests itself.
Anyone needing a visual on what this looks like, here. Messed up graphics
Notice the shield on the NPC station shows up where it doesn't belong? That happens whenever viewing certain objects from certain perspectives, it seems like there's a roughly 180 degrees of viewing angles that the error shows up in, as though the normals for the textures decide to flip randomly and their transparent side is suddenly on the outside, but not quite since other parts of the ship still show their outside correctly, just not occluded by the ship parts that are nearer the camera, which they should be.

Have the ATI Radeon HD 4670 myself. I did notice that this started suddenly, possibly at the same time as one of the Mac updates. It did not correspond with an update to EVE.

That's a really great idea. We're building up some facts here, which they may or may not have already gathered themselves. However, most new iMacs have the ATI Radeon series of cards. It may be tough to track down many people with the NVIDIA version of the 21.5".

And I have had random crashing issues, but that's been going on for awhile and usually only occurs after the client's been up for 1-2+ hours. It'll just up and quit with no warning. A couple times I've been able to log back in quickly enough to stop the command+Q warp induction. I'm not sure if/how the crashes are related to the display issue, but I suppose they might share a root cause.

The only settings that (I think) might impact this are ones related to the z-buffer. If my one computer graphics class back in university served me well, I think that's the part of the graphics processor that deals with the "depth"/into-your-monitor direction of 3D modeling. (Anyone can feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on this one...)

Shields?!? Who's looking at any shields when you're flying a shuttle as big as a station!?!??
Seriously, though, thanks for the detailed post, Pheonix. Hopefully CCP will see this and offer some advice.

Oh, and agreed on this point too. I'm only seeing it on 180 degrees of the Y-axis/horizontal view point.

Haha, you liked the shuttle eh? Who know they came in super-capital series!?
I know some mac users don't have the crash issues, but I most certainly do, and if I can tie my own experiences and others into a common thing.. maybe we can have it fixed with a coming patch. I know I'd sure like to stop losing my T2 drones on my missions due to client crashes and my drones being blown up while I warp back through multiple rooms trying to save them in a slowboating Dominix :(.
Heck I'd even be happier with a change in game mechanics where your drones are allowed to be recalled even through the emergency warp, but fixing the crashes would be one better still since its possible that I could lose out on sleeper sites because if I crash and leave the site, it could despawn and bye bye hackable cans ;'(
I really think this ties in with the ATI cards somehow though.. my memory usage, as tracked via the in-game monitor is always on the increase, it might rebound slightly but overall there is a very consistent increase in memory usage, it's plausible that unchecked this will consistently lead to client crashes, but I don't know enough about computers to know if my video card could be the cause of it. I also get the buffer overrun error, as well as an error linking the exe file. 9/10 times when I try to close the game it gives me an error and does not close until I force quit it.
I've been told CCP is aware of and has filed the issue, but I do we hope our findings help speed the process as I've yet to have a truly crash-free EVE experience and I would really like to have it.
Soon as a buddy hooks me up with a windows product key I'm setting up bootcamp in the meantime... I'm now the CEO of my corp and I'm trying my best to make enough isk for plex while running things and crashes are a major hindrance in being able to do all of these things effectively.
I'll still have the mac client and will be ready and willing to try anything suggested by GMs to fix it, but soon as I can, I will be making the move to the non-cider-tortured version of the client.
Truth be told, I'm still hoping against all hope that there might possibly be some ideas being thrown around for a native mac client, it's outlandish, but I think it would be beneficial to everyone, including CCPs wallets in the long-run.
IMO, a fair number of players aren't being reached because some mac users are hesitant to suggest the game to their friends because of the errors, it kills the game's rep quickly.
If we can find just one person experiencing our same issue who is not using an ATI video card it would be a sign that I'm not on the right track in terms of error source, so if anyone fits that bill, please speak up.

This started a couple of days ago. I've been noticing weird behavior getting out of stations too, but not getting render errors. Getting the weird 180 degree lock too. The mac uptade seems plausible.

Sorry, Bolonon, but I don't think so. If you're not having the depth-perception issue, it sounds totally different.

Tuttle, does it only happen when you're viewing from one half of the way around your ship? It seems that it happens that way for a few of us.

This happens on my iMac, with ATI radeon 2600pro, but not on my Mac Pro with an NVIDIA gt120.
It started with the 10.6.3 update and I guess it is an ATI driver problem? It is worst when you are near a station or gate when there are lots of polygons in the vicinity, and it is directional for me too.

Not at all meaning to jack this thread, but I'm also looking into this issue and collecting information as possible. The thread I am using is http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1308411&page=1 and on it I also have a video demonstrating the issue, which I have forwarded on to the bug-reporting team through a bug-report.
This thread is just collecting information on peoples video cards, so far it seems only ATI and Intel video cards are being affected, but not all ATI cards. And confirmed, it has only been happening since the latest apple update. Possibly only the latest snow leopard update, I'm not sure.
Please let me know there your setups and if the issue is showing up or not on your machine. I have also linked the thread with my petition.

Same, It seems that the problem is less extensive when i enable all graphical details - allthough it's not tied to any single setting, it is only minimised when they're all enabled. Full settings arent an option when im running at 1920x1200 which is the native setting on 24" imac. gfx is ati x2600

I un-tick "Sun occluded by ships" in EVE's graphics settings and this cleared A LOT of freaky flashing, pulsing and just plain weird graphics. I hope this helps. I'm running a iMac Core 2 Duo 3.06GHz with an ATI Radeon HD 4670 (256mb) with Mac OS 10.6.3.

Good News.
Bug seems to be gone on latest Sisi test build. Undocked in same ship at same station with same default graphics settings - all flashing etc on TQ, perfect on Sisi.
Daan
PS - turning off sun occlusion helped a little, but I still get ship lights / flashing a bit. SiSi is good on or off.

Checked SiSi, still have the same issue with the sun and flicker of objects. It occurs for me on the sun -> ship line at 90 deg either side of that line. Ship aspect is irrelevant. I agree with the previous poster that the problem was solved on SiSi but the last patch borked it.

Thanks for the suggestion, Regsamjor. I thought I had tried this before, but apparently had not. As soon as I unchecked "Sun occluded by ships" all the flickering and depth issues went away. Unfortunately the sun now shines through stations, ships and whatever. It's still far and away better than having everything seize uncontrollably!
Hopefully CCP gets in gear and figures out what's going on with this.
