So i'm planing to get a new computer with Windows 7 64 bit oem. That version btw does not contain the 32 bit version with it. So how will eve client run on it ?
Will we see EVE 64 bit native version in the close future or does the current one install allready as such.

To my knowledge, no immediate plans for a 64bit version. I have W7 Ultimate 64 and runs multiple clients without any problems.

32-bit code will run without any issues on a 64-bit chip. There won't be any noticable performance boosts or anything. EVE is a 32-bit compiled application, so no problems with that on 64-bit. ----

If you're trying to say that no 32-bit programs will run on it, I doubt that's a factual statement. Not 100% certain, just 99.99% certain.
Most 32-bit software should run just fine, maybe not as fast as the 64-bit version of the same software (if available), but still working. There is no "native" 64-bit version of EVE (AFAIK), but it will almost certainly work just fine on a 64-bit OS.

That just means the disc ony contains Windows 7 64 bit install and not 32/64 like the retail discs do. It does not mean that you have a version of 64bit windows that cannot handle 32bit code. It mearly means that the OEM disc will not let you choose to install 32bit Windows 7.

It runs just fine on 64bit OSX, so surely it should run just fine in 64bit Windows – it's its native OS, after all… ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

Edited by: SFX Bladerunner on 19/04/2010 14:34:31 To clarify some things here to the people that might be interrested in knowning:
A 64bit OS is 100% backwards compatible with 32bit software, because 'backward compatability' isn't even the right term to use. The '64bit' CPU's currently available by AMD and Intel (it doesn't matter which, because intel chips are exact AMD chips but with another namestamp on it) aren't native 64bit chips. (Intel does make native 64bit chips, but these are not regular consumer market cpu's and you won't find them in any regular computerstore.) The current setup of the 64bit CPU chips is best described as a 64bit extension on top of a 32bit chip. This means that you have a fully capable 32bit chip that runs any 32bit instructions without problem. It just has extra instructionsets for 64bit imput and can thusly execute 64bit code aswell.
In other words, a 32bit processor can run only 32bit code, a '64bit' regular processor can run 32bit code + 64bit code, a REAL 64bit processor can only run 64bit code.
ps. differences in the OS's effectivity and quality of working with programs (such as eve audio) have nothing to do with the aspect of wether you are using a 32bit or 64bit CPU, merely with how the OS is built (w7 64bit should perform the same as w7 32bit, but w7 might perform different compared to vista or xp).

I am running 64bit Windows Ultimate, I have no problems with sound. (When I turn it on, which is rare because I often run several clients)

You should keep it in a cage, mice can do an awful lot of damage if thy are not properly caged.

64 bit Windows 7 works perfectly with EVE. Been using for about three months now.

Confirming EVE runs rather nicely on Win7-64.
Confirming any well-written program runs rather nicely on Win7-64, actually. Drivers for older or weirder hardware are the only real problem I've had.

It's oversimplified, perhaps, but it's true. Intel's and AMD's processors mainly adhere to the same functional specifications.
Exactly the same? Perhaps not, but you might as well consider them equal. - Paknac Queltel

For the purposes of the thread, it's sufficient to say they're compatible. However, saying they're "the same" (and further, that Intel is just an AMD clone) is pure ignorance.

Intel did clone AMD's x86-64 extensions, just as AMD in the past cloned x86.
To keep thing easier to understand for the average reader (like, say, the OP), saying they're "the same" isn't that bad. Merely oversimplified. - Paknac Queltel
