I'm coming up to my first re-map point and would appreciate some help/guidance as to how to maximise the opportunity.
Lie a lot of new players, when I set the map points up a year ago I didn't really know why/what it was for and the effect it could have on the char.
Presently I have:
Intelligence 21.60 Perception 17.28 Charisma 17.28 Willpower 18.36 Memory 21.60
the character has been pretty much an Indy carebear but can fly a Domi for L4 missions (drones skills all at 5, but weapons skills suck), but I'd like to be a bit more aggressive with him in future and get into some pvp
TIA

You do realize that, as a newbie, you have 2x remap option for your first year, right?

For an Indy char, yours was not the worst remap ever (you would propobably have preferred a little higher Memory, but otherwise okay).
Now, you'll typically need Perception + Willpower for weapon/ship skills. However, before doing so, I'd train up your current learning skills some more. They're still too low, really (you want your primary somewhere between 26-31). Then I'd make a full yearplan, and let Evemon dedice what remap you need for that. -- Gorgeous, delicious, deculture! |

The EVEMon 1 Year Plan is definitely they way to go here. Obviously, you're newish and you will find that you have a lot of different interests and things that you want to do with your character, but try to get a general idea of where you want your character to go.
Say to yourself, I want to accomplish the following things, for example:
1. Gunnery Skills to a competent level 2. Core Skills up to V and IV 3. Battleship V 4. Assorted T2 Cruiser Skills
Put them all into EVEMon, even if they aren't exactly what you are planning on doing. You can always change your plan, just use that to get a basic idea and go off from there.

basically for combat you need both tanking and shooting/piloting skills, all the tanking skills are int/mem and shooting piloting are perc/willpower. The difference is that while you can max out either armor or shield (or both if you so choose) skills in roughly half a year and work for everything you fly, shooting/piloting skills have much bigger variety so the most efficent way would be to first remap to int/psy and max tanking+fitting(if you havent alr) for half a year and then swap to perc/willpower and train towards whatever you wanna fly/shoot with. Alternatively if you choose to do offensive skills first and then swap for int/psy you run out of desired stuff to train b4 another remap is available thus in the end lowering your training speed

Edited by: fivetide humidyear on 21/04/2010 13:57:58 I would consider a averaged clone (intelligence and perception at 12, others at 5) for another year to get a reasonable training time across all skills to get into a decent t2 fitted battleship and have good support skills.
then in years 3 and 4 specialise into more ship and weapon options (perc/willpower high clone) or support skills (int/memory) or leadership or whatever takes your fancy.
but definitely take another year to get the core skills up, don't end up with really good ship command skills but not the good core ones (capacitor, tanking, navigation, drones etc.) to make your ship really shine
