Hi,
I'm just wondering will EVE run wil any notable improvements if i switched from Vista to 7 I'm on an integrated graphics card now and getting at most about 10FPS. Will anything about playing EVE improve if i use 7
My PC has 1.88ghz dualcore 1.5GB ram

well win 7 is more efficient overall than vista, but doubtful you will see any enoromous difference in performance. other than the fact it might free up a few resources off your cpu and ram.

I think the biggest boost would be to downgrade to XP. At least that doesn't fill your RAM with 3 GB of crappy designed malware that Microsoft calls a GUI.

yes, vista is craptastic. but the problem isnt the OS its your resources. you really need more ram and a processor upgrade wouldn't hurt. but think about downgrading to XP its a great little system that doesnt suck as much power to just run in the background.
low powered computers should never have anything bigger then XP on it. one of the first things i did with my wife's netbook as junk 7 and put on XP it runs a lot better now

Have you ever tried Windows 7?.
Well yeah, Windows XP is fats and that, but when it comes to security, Windows 7 beats XP extremely hard.
You can call Windows XP for fast until you put in an SSD drive and then install Windows 7 on it. Windows 7 is about 2-3 times faster in everything over XP then. Even if you have XP on an SSD drive. Since Windows 7 it optimized for SSD drives.
And Windows XP isn't optimized for SSD's.
Also, Windows 7 is much much better than Windows Vista in everything. Windows 7 isn't bloated as Vista is.
Performance wise in games, you wont see any difference though. If you do, the difference is very minimal. But when it comes to how good performance the actual Windows have, then Windows 7 beats everything.
EDIT: ***s, posted with my alt. This was supposed to be posted with NightmareX.

Trolly troll is trolly.
You probably won't notice a difference from Vista to 7 though you might. If you do however it won't be like over nine thousand fps.
Like someone else said, you probably might want to save the money to buy a new video card/computer.
And if you're downloading it we don't want to know. ______________________________

There is an OS that beats the living **** out of every OS out there and it's light, it's simple to use, hardly uses any memory, is so small it's unbelievable and is nearly 100% virus proof. It's called... DOS 6. Why don't you downgrade to that, clever child and leave the adults to talk?
Win 7 is fantastic. I thought Vista was good until I tried 7 and I'm never, ever, going back to Vista, let alone that outdated, crappy XP. Unlike XP win 7 loads programmes much faster, is more secure and will make use of your hardware to its optimal performance. The one thing that's recommended for 7 is a semi decent hardware, so your PC doesn't lag out. Unfortunately you have some cheap, worthless integrated Intel graphics and you're pretty much doomed. Buy a cheap, second hand, 4xxx or GTS250 and you'll be fine. If you're motherboard doesn't have a PCIE slot you're left with very little choice than to upgrade.
Don't buy overpriced Intel CPU's with crappy video cards, because that's really pointless.
If you're Scrooge and are still running a 10 year old PC, or are too weak to tell the girlfriend, or wife, that they can't have that piece of jewellery, because it's your turn to buy something for yourself, then you'd better stick with XP and IE 6. Of course, this will bring with it the pleasures of being very insecure and having to upgrade anyway, when MS dump XP in a year or two, something they should have done long ago
I've been running 7 since the day it was released and LOVE it.
Edit: This was general advice, aimed at everyone still stuck with that useless OS XP. Win 7 would even be good for OP, though it won't speed games up.

I would but sadly most drivers (and DirectX) are not being developed for DOS.

The most used OS in history is DOS, why aren't you running that? After all the most used equals best, right?
I couldn't care whether you switch to 7 or not, you will be the one left in the dark when MS stop supporting XP, which they basically have. You will never get any more Service Packs, nor important updates. The only thing you will get are security patches and that won't be for much longer.
I won't respond to the rest of your argument because you know very little about soft- and hardware, considering you don't even believe that PC's can lag.

I was never keen on Vista due to its large hardware footprint. However it worked okay on my home PC as that is quite beefy. I wouldn't have it on my work PC though... I did fight tooth and claw to avoid deploying Vista to our public PC's, but meh, management are ****s and they always know best.
Fast forward one year, and guess what? We're not going to deploy Vista to the staff PC's. We're going to go straight from XP to Windows 7 and upgrade the public PC's from Vista to Windows 7.
What can I say about Windows 7? Well I have it installed on both my home PC and my work PC. People like to bash Microsoft, but to be honest, Windows 7 is pretty good and I would never go back to XP from Windows 7.
Will you see an increase in performance? Well potentially... Windows 7 is not as demanding as Vista so your system will have a bit more to play with. I wouldn't expect a lot though, especially in terms of FPS.
Your biggest problem is both singularly and a combination of the integrated grahpics card and the amount of system memory. Although you have 1.5GB installed, the integrated graphics card will take however much it is assigned from your system memory. it may have 1.5Gb stamped on the box, but with hte integrated graphics card, in real terms you'll have less.
Ideally, if you're on a 32 bit Operating System, upgrade to 3GB of system memory; x2 500MB and x2 1GB if you're on a dual channel motherboard (anything more than 3.5GB on a 32 bit OS is pointless due to memory addressing limitations) AND look to acquire a dedicated graphics card. I suspect you may have an AGP slot, but you can still find those cards if you look around.
If you're going to upgrade to a 64 bit OS, then go for 4GB+ of system memory and obviously a dedeicated graphics card.
Without your exact system specifications it's a little hard to give you any more advice. the above is somewhat tentative as it is! You may need to look at a complete upgrade (new CPU plus cooler, new motherboard to take it, then new memory to cope with the faster CPU and FSB, a PCIe Graphics card and then mebbe SATA HDD's).
Building a new PC and working out all the new technology since the your last build can be fun, but it can also be an expensive hobby
EDIT: clarified some points and silly spelling

Vista needs 1gb of RAM just to run, which is the big reason your PC fails right now... dont get Windows 7, get another gb or 2 of ram. honestly the new pc idea is the best, 1.88ghz dual core is pretty bad. 1.5gb of ram ( means i assume you have an old motherboard) is an odd amount to have. you also didnt post video card so i am guessing Intel intergrated fail.
best bet? spend $600-$2000 on a new pc, my $700 laptop ( almost a year old now so prolly cheaper) Runs eve just fine. with plenty of background programs and it uses windows vista, but with 3gb of ram.
Windows 7 is a good thing to get, but not neccessary it doesnt load all the crap into ram and is alot smoother. If you have the option of getting 7 do it, but if you see vista dont run away crying the "but vista is bad because i upgraded my Win 98 pc to vista and it wont run fast" game that 90% of morons that got vista did

1.5 gig of ram should be okay, the 1.88ghz dualcore will depend slightly on what chip it is ...
If your talking c2duo u7700 (or similar) then the upgrade to w7 probalby will not help.. the main bottleneck for you will likely be the integrated graphics. I think eve has a hard-usage limit on ram somewhere around the 550 meg mark... so as long as you have 550+ free, then eve will fit in that slot and allocate it all. Ideally you would have 3gig+ of ram to load all of windows, a few extras, and eve.
It sounds like you have a laptop, Upgrading them can be difficult, but that doesnt mean its impossible.
Some upgrades could make eve faster.. SSD hard drive, possibly some extra ram (depending on what vista is sucking up), and a processor upgrade if possible (some lappys can, some cant, most is a BAD idea for thermal reasons).
Windows7 is MUCH less of a resource hog than vista, so as a guess, yes you would likely see a performance gain. I dont think the gain would be worth it in the long run, save your money and buy a gaming desktop, or possibly even watch for new budget lappys coming out.. the i5/i3's would likely pummel c2duo lappys (if both had integrated video). New lappys would come with win7, probably more ram, probably a better integated video processor (check this), and possibly a hard drive that has much better read/write/seek speeds... all for probably 3* to cost of win7+ram :P...

Frankly 1.5gb of ram isn't ideal to run Vista on on its own! 2gb+ is really needed. Best thing you could do for yourself is buy a decent graphics card. That would take a load off the CPU (and ram to some extent), and would greatly improve your frame-rate. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ "If men make war in slavish obedience to rules, they will fail." ~ Ulysses S. You need a better video card. If you stream line the programs running on your system 1.5GB RAM is adequate assuming you're running Windows XP. I've run Eve on my netbook with 1GB RAM and WinXP. Performance on it was limited mostly by video. The limited memory did not seem to be a problem. I was not losing performance to disk writes to the swap file. Stream line means only run Eve, nothing else. Make sure your system isn't loading a lot of start up programs, msconfig is your friend here. If you've got a lot of icons in your systray, use msconfig to stop those from loading. Turn off unnecessary services. There is a lot of information on the net about what services you do and you don't need. Google it.
To give you an idea how crappy integrated video is on most systems, I bought a new mobo and a phenom quad core processor with 4GB of RAM 6mos ago. I got about what you're getting, 10 - 15 FPS undocked using the integrated video. So, I forked over $89 for a Geforce 9800 gtx+. I run at full settings and get about 60 - 80 FPS. Any decent 8000 series geforce or higher should run Eve fine at full settings or close to it.
Alot of what you're seeing from other people telling you to get a new system is BS. I got better performance than you on my 7yo computer before I bought a new system. I don't think you need a new computer. But you definitely need a new video card. 1.5GB RAM is low by today's standards but running XP and being smart about it, I believe it shouldn't be much of a problem.

No you don't :)
Win32 cmd.exe != DOS.
It's a self-contained programme that implements a subset of the old DOS commands but is it *NOT* DOS.
Windows 3.11/9x was a GUI layer that ran on top of a DOS subsystem and the command prompt was a DOS prompt, but that's not the case with anything based on the NT kernel.

Your computer has a half decent CPU, okish amount of memory. The one MAIN thing that's holding your eve experience (and any other game experience for that matter) back, is the integrated graphics card.
1) Integrated graphics usually use 'main memory'. This is bad because main memory isn't 'tuned' for how a graphics card uses it (GPUs love LOTS of bit-wide access with as low a latency as possible. 2) Integrated graphics are usually 'castrated' versions of discrete graphics cards. They are meant to fit into a small footprint, use as little power as possible, put out as little heat as possible and yet provide an acceptable 2D performance, and if at all possible some (note: not even close to acceptable) 3D performance. 3) If you're unlucky (and at a conservative guess, 70% of the people with integrated graphics fall into that category), you're stuck with an Intel integrated graphics chip. Intel is a great CPU designer, makes awesome chip sets, but.... They make absolutely CRAP graphics chips. All the above apply, plus, it's a cut down version of a chip that never even made it to the status of a distinct card.
So, grabbing a separate graphics card, as opposed to upgrading to 7 will give you much more of a boost. Vista is sucky too, so 7 is a good upgrade to do for other reasons: stability, and overall performance will go up (note: very little improvement in frame rates though!).

Windows 7 is really quite good. I HATED Vista. Had it in 64 on one PC and 32 on another. Had issues (ui recrashing due to bug I couldn't fix). When I upgraded (from fresh installs to be safe) on both of these PCs (luck had the 3 pc W7 family upgrade was still being sold) and upgraded both.
Night and day imo, and not saying that to argue, just stating my experience. Happy is a good fit for how I feel about the PC.
I have a PVR (a pc that is my PVR) running w7, upgraded from vista also, and WMC is HUGELY better on w7. I have a netbook also, and istalled Jolicloud (ubuntu netbook remix distro), and am happy. Faster than XP was, and is a handy little machine. I like having a quad core, and recommend, if you can, go i5 on laptops (or i7, if you can afford it) and any chip for quad core on desktops (does AMD make quadcore on laptop yet?) if you ever do upgrade, though avoid pre Core2 series quad cores.
Hope this helps
