It's the ruins of the first titan destroyed in EVE, it's out in C9N-CC if you care to check it out. CCP decided to mark the occasion by making a permanent landmark. You can see a report at my blog here: http://evetravel.wordpress.com/2010/02/16/steve-memorial/ ----

The grouping of 10 red dots, carbon-copied all over the map, is very noticeable. I'm guessing that the red dots aren't really where the landmarks are exactly, but rather a superimposed layer that you created quickly and then pasted on top of the map jpg.

The landmarks in the first two images are in the right places. The rest are just copy pasted semi-randomly to show the number of new sites.

nice work cant wait to see the sites, never really checked them out before...
still while u're working on these things that got "forgotten" how about the fact that stations are too small to fit ships of any size, hell 1 megathron takes up the entire station lol, ccp really needs to work on fixing the scale issues especially in concern to stations.... planets now seem larger and u can tell your far from them... but stations u can be 5m from then and their puney. and pos's well... come on really a stick thats a player starbase?

While I like the approach in general I stumbled upon that line
Quote: ...we noticed that these sites were mostly concentrated in just a few regions. This seemed unfair to players who play elsewhere, so we went to work on distributing them to the rest of the EVE cluster.
Why are you recently changing Eve into a world which looks at each part the same? Why don't you leave differences to the difference regions? Why do you destroy more and more of the individualities of the different regions? Why can't be some regions more rich and others more desolate? Or did I misunderstand something?
In my opinion interesting emergant behaviour comes from having differences in some areas and not from being all areas the same(except name differences).
But anyway, congratulations to that big task of moving these 2000+ sites into the dungeon system. |

I think the plan is to add new sights to the sytems, some of them will be linked to the various stories that have come out since EvE went live.

Well the public/static landmarks and public/static dungeons be part of the static database dump? Would be nice to map them in 3rd party tools and not just in the ingame map?

I fully agree with this opinion. I understand that redistributing agents, sites, resources and so on is another step in this constatant battle against lag. CCP's goal is probably equal number of players in each system. But it would be boring if each system in our galaxy would be almost identical. Differences are good. They make game interesting.
And another thing is... will be there beacons in overview with these sites? I believe it would be better (and more interesting) to leave them as they are now. Let players actively search for them and spread information. It is more interesting then warping to beacon in overview.

Cool
Quote: This project mostly involved copying sites, renaming them, tweaking them a little bit so they aren't all exact copies of one another
waitwhat? Well since the first quote was hoping my enjoyment will be related to my knowledge of how much effort these required, and it apparently took not much more than a lot of cntrl+c/v, my anticipated expectation of entertainment has deflated accordingly.
Maybe this is why eve's pve sucks? too much copy/paste?
ignorance is bliss.
in other news, the lag monster is still terrorizing the spacelanes, rockets still suck, AFs are still missing something, PI is omgawful, FW is still pointless (although more profitably pointless now, thanks!), and the Socket Closed assassin still strikes.

I've noticed in the photos provided in the blog that some of the carbon copy dots are in the Jove empire space and the areas beyond which are inaccessible to regular eve players (unless I'm missing something). Dose this mean that Jove space may soon be made accessible to the general eve population?

Comparing this post to the blog:
Quote: Greetings EVE players,
My name is CCP Bettik and this is my first dev blog. Given my aversion to writing lengthy texts, this endeavour may seem somewhat miraculous. I am sure that my paltry attempt at documenting my work will go quite unnoticed in the annals of time. However, this is not to say that EVE will be forgotten. On the contrary, I believe that EVE will be discussed long after my time, and I hold that belief with the utmost joy.
Add to it the line "This dev blog is a translation", I get the impression Bettik's English isn't the best and someone/something translated his blog for him. Someone with an unusually expansive vocabulary and a love of the British spelling of words.
EDIT: Also looking forward to hunting down more of these sites.

Very good. I think that changes like this that make certain parts of space more unique are great for the game.
One of the main complaints that new players have is that every system is just like the next, a few planets, a sun, stations, and empty space. This addition will add just a little bit more texture to the game world. Hope to see more changes like this in the future!

Beacons are a very nice and optimum cellestial reference in the PVE content (even more in 0.0) but it doesn¦t work that if you want to see them you must also see x other objects filling the overview.
The beacons in these new sites are indeed Celestial Beacons which are in the Celestial category.
The reason we don't use that type of beacon in all of our PVE is that items in the Celestial category are hard-coded to show up on everyones overview. This would be bad for regular PVE. We do however use this for the factional warfare missions to promote PVP in those missions.

Nice one guys! This is the sort of content that is really cool as it brings some texture and richness to the environment. It is realistic to expect that a universe that has been traversed and explored for thousands of years would have wrecks, abandoned space stations, the remains of old factory sites, labs, temples, old battle sites etc - most probably would be marked when discovered to prevent space traffic impacting them - the lonely, out of the way ones would almost certainly become home to undesirables who had been driven out from ordinary society and were looking for a home or a base to ambush unwary travellers!
As you say, I hope we 'stumble' across them as finding something new in space is one of the best bits of Eve - we don't have enough 'Easter Eggs'. Don't make em too easy to find please, the joy is in the discovery!!
Good work all!

I love the new landmarks, especially the Roden Center description, but is there any chance of having them listed someplace other than under the 'DED Agent Site Report' on the map? It's going to make finding the actual agent sites rather difficult if it goes live this way.

Thank you for the new content, and for spreading it out for all to enjoy. My one complaint would be this. Space is supposed to be vast, dark, and mysterious. Where's the mystery in fixed celestial beacons ? Or for that matter the adventure, sense of the unknown, or exploration ? Once again, thanks for the content, but after 7 years we need to perhaps start talking about putting some aspects of the unknown into the game and expanding on the concept of exploration.
