So my question is, are T2 salvagers worth the 13d train time from IV to V? I have a noctis that follows me around and salvages/loots for my main. Also is the only way to get T2 salvages with the T2 salvagers? |

Nope. You can get t2 salvage, if you only have t1 salvagers and the level 4 skill.
5 will improve your times a bit, but that's all. FuzzWork Enterprises http://www.fuzzwork.co.uk/ Blueprint calculator, invention chance calculator, isk/m3 Ore chart-á and other 'useful' utilities. |

The T2 salvager will give you 20% more range than the T1. More range means less moving around. Is it worth it? It just depends on what other skills you'd rather have more. |

With a ship that has giant salvaging bonuses, probably not . T1 salvagers get 5% salvage retrieval chance per cycle per level of Salvaging. T2 salvagers get 7%.
So going from Salvagers IV to V and getting t2 salvagers brings you from 20 to 35% base. T2 wrecks have a -10% chance per cycle, so 10% to 25%. It's mostly useful when you're on a non-dedicated salvage ship. |

It is very worth it and here is why:
T1 salvagers give you 5% per level. At level four you salvage for 20% chance.
T2 salvagers give you 7% per level. At level five you salvage for 35% chance.
So besides the extra range you salvage 75% faster with that last level. It's worth it!
The ingame discriptions are kind of messed up for the salvagers. |

You don't need T2 Salvagers to get T2 salvage, but you do need a fairly good salvage chance to get T2 salvage and the other juicy stuff.
T1 Salvager with skill 4 and no rig bonus gives a salvage chance of 20%. However with rigs you can raise this to 30% or even 35%, which should be plenty.
T2 Salvager with skill 5 gives a 35% salvage chance bonus, however. Add rigs on top of that if you want to salvage faster, but it shouldn't be necessary.

If you plan to use a Noctis in w-space, then T2 Salvagers are highly recommended. The faster you crack the wrecks, the less time you're sitting as a juicy fat target in space for any passing Stealth Bomber..

absolutely not worth it if you are running missions in high sec. I do the same having an alt follow me around in a noctis. I find that T1 salvager's get the job done faster than I can target and tractor in the wrecks. T2 salvager's would just mean more waiting. In null or especially W space they can be well worth it as higher end rats and sleepers can be harder to crack. But if you are just running missions in high sec it is a waste unless you have nothing else useful to train. |

As with all posts in this forum, it is a personal decision about effectiveness vs time. In this case both time of training and time to salvage a given wreck.
For me, training Salvaging V was a no brainer at the time I trained it (+60M sp). Access to a better ranged module + 5% bonus even when I didn't or couldn't use the T2 module for fitting reasons, was a good gain. Especially so since I was training it on an alt so it didn't require changing training on my main. I now have it trained on multiple "mains".
Personally, I think that if you spend any reasonable portion of time salvaging, either as a loot *****, in WH, or even for a trailing mission alt, the T2 module and bonus are a huge benefit. If you have a noctis, not putting T2 salvagers on it seems like a huge waste. The post that said he could salvage faster than loot should change the ratio of tractors to salvagers on his noctis and would realize better returns.

It's also important to note that in w-space some wrecks are impossible to salvage without T2 salvagers or rigs. |

Yes, it is a c4+ thing. You can use skill 4 as long as you got 1 or 2 rigs, but 5 just makes it easier with t3's.
Imo t2 salvagers seems to be very worth it especially against harder loot.

This.
I'd like to add as well that even though you might be able to salvage with lvl 4 salvagers even in a C3 it stils quite slower than anything mission-wise. The sleeper wrecks are considerably tougher to crack and take a lot more time and a LOT of fail attempts. I've sat there for minutes not believing how many freakin attempts had gone before the wreck salvaged (now imagine it being empty as well). T2 salvagers...must for wormholes. Spider Pig!-áSpider Pig! Does what a Spider Pig does.. Can he swing? From a web.. No he can't. He's a pig. |

Complete answer:
Salvaging chance of specific wreck per cycle is sum of access difficulty base and access difficulty bonus. If it is above 0%, wreck can be salvaged.
Access Difficulty Base T1 frig wreck has an Access Difficulty Base of +30%. T1 cruiser wreck has an Access Difficulty Base of +20%. T1 BS wreck has an Access Difficulty Base of +10%. Elite Wreck (all T2 ships) has an Access Difficulty Base of -10%. Advanced wreck (sleeper or T3 ship) has an Access Difficulty Base of -20%.
Access Difficulty Bonus Salvaging Level II, III, IV, V with "Salvager I" give +10, +15, +20, +25% (respectively) bonus. Salvager II = 7% per level (requires salvaging Level V to equip) = +35% Small/Medium/Large Salvage Tackle I = +10% Small/Medium/Large Salvage Tackle II = +15% Hardwiring - Poteque Pharmaceuticals 'Prospector' PPY-1 = +5%
EXAMPLE Using a Destroyer with 400 calibration points as an example, you can attain the following Access Difficulty Bonus with full gear and skills: Salvager II * Salvaging Level V + Small Salvage Tackle II * 3 + Implant (7% * 5) + (15% * 3) + 5% = 85% Which on sleeper wreck would give 65% chance to salvage in each cycle, +85%-20%=65%. So all equipment, skills and implants do is raise chance to get salvage in each cycle. What will you get from wreck has nothing to do with your skills because as GMs said, salvage is defined moment the wreck is created.
