I know this scanning interface has been in place now for quite a while but I'm only starting to get into it. Who the hell came up with the color scheme for the cubes and arrows? I've been staring at the damn screen for about 1 1/2 hours and my eyes are literally bugging out of my skull.
Post here if you want a new, eye friendly color scheme for the scanner probe interface. Seriously, I'm going mental from all the time I click on a damn arrow instead of the box and my probes end up way the hell out in the middle of nowhere. Just get rid of the damn arrows altogether, dragging the box is more than enough to get probes moved around.

On the other hand, some of us (like me, and a few tutorial vids I've seen) move the probes only using the arrows. |

Arrow movement only. Dragging from a face of the cube is too wild, you usually end up way off the mark. I'm sure could adapt to it, but arrows are great. Just want them to not be so dark can't see them against the background

Some Below, Some Above? Screwed
Quite frankly that Artificial Horizon thing has to go, it serves absolutely no purpose except to **** people off.

some below some above, can't say I've ever had that happen, but then my default scanning layout for probing is a flat cross. ( I change to a pyramid shape to get the final few percent on harder sigs but by then I'm right on top of it anyway)
as for no use on the artificial horizon thing? I use it as a handy reference point when switching between scanning different sites (as in I move the probes to just above it after I scan down one site) having the arrows fully visible through it would be more handy in my opinion. ------ Lead me not into temptation... And the system background affects how well you can read or not read the probes. In very dark systems probes show up as dark grey against black.
The above poster is right, move by arrows only, never by the cube.

Your problem is you never used the old version.
There were more probe types, it took longer, it was difficult and there was a large ownus on player ability rather than just skills.
If you'd of used it before, you'd be wondering why they made it so kindergarden now. --
Nothing is worthless, you may have gotten it for free but it still has an inherent value

I love the new way over the old way. Old way was drop probes click scan then go do something not in game. I always move by clicking on the cube face, have to click twice when using arrows, moving vertically i always use arrows. Also combat probing is much much faster now and more exciting.

The new system is much better for scanning out signatures.
It however is much slower for scanning out ships :| --------------------- Creator of another Mining Calculator |

Agreed with using the arrows rather than the cubes.
I'd be quite happy with getting rid of the artificial horizon, but really tweaking the scan probe color would probably be even better (make them lighter against a dark background, darker against a light background). There are some systems, especially dark blue ones, that the probes can be difficult to see from all angles.
It's not as bad as it was since the first patch after the new scanning system was released, which was when a lot of stuff broke and we started begging for usability changes. Some of which we've gotten but some, like the probe color, we haven't.

Yeah, the arrows are not really a huge problem but it would be nice if we could choose to have them or not. I move my camera around and use the box to position because the arrows are just skinny lines at certain angles and it's just frustrating. It's more the color scheme, especially in certain systems with the gas clouds etc. It's just too much for my poor, colorblind eyes to handle. A simple black background for system maps should be used and a bright color (blue maybe)for boxes and another color for 3-D arrows (white?) would be perfect imo.

If you can, turn up your graphics settings. I haven't investigated much yet, but on my desktop pc with a gaming video card, the probes are 10x easier to see then on my notebook with minimal graphics capability. Scanning is almost impossible on the notebook due to the colors/textures.

I like the interface now with one exception. I'd like a true top down view, i can get close, but not full 180 looking down. The addition of the intersect lines has also made things easier. the only hitch i've had is clicking names instead of faces or arrows, just click only when the face/arrow you want is highlighted. It requires a little patience to do that but scanning is not designed to be click click reward either.

The issue with the artificial horizon obscuring the arrows is solved by putting Shader Detail to high. The only issue I have with the interface (admittedly after a LOT of practice) is that sometimes I accidentally grab a single probe at its circumference and resize it when i was intending to drag an arrow. The correct way to resize imo is highlight all probes using Ctrl in the probe windows, right click and select size, therefore this dragging circumference resize feature is not needed and should be removed.

Am I the only one who has problems trying to centre the map onto a new objective? Is there a shortcut for it because I can't find one.
