Hey, I was considering using these from a distance to take out the ships attacking my tank ship in L4s - afk 4tw \0/
Anyway, what's the maximum range of sentries? I know there's different ranges, but what's the max range that can be achieved.
Secondly, am I right in thinking that the ship the drone would be attacking must still be inside one's own drone control range?

Heavies are actually better for the AFK thing. Sentries, though, can be incredibly potent for active flying.

On a skilled Domi with three omnis I'm getting 118k optimal with Warden IIs. Garde IIs, which are frankly better for missions, are getting 47 + 12 with 495 DPS and .0565 tracking (which can, in fact, hit most frigates in orbit albeit slowly).

No.
You can only assign them to attack something in range but they can indeed choose to target anything they can hit. Whether they will or not is pretty much random.
Drones set on aggressive will go after just about anything. They especially seem to like triggers and other things that will get them/you killed if you're not paying attention.
Or at least that's my experience....

Drones set on agressive will only go after targets that have agressed you or them (red box) Wont attack if they have only locked (yellow boxed)

Set your drones to 'Guard' the ship tanking. They will auto onto anything attacking it.
