I was exploring in a sector when I found an average Omber deposit. I went it to look at it while on patrol with my Thorax and ont he overview is a massive spatial rift. The description sounds like the worm holes, but I'm staying clkear away from it.
What can I expect from a .6 sec sector worm hole, assuming it is one, and I realize I have to go in with the probe ship.

Edited by: Boltorano on 05/05/2010 04:40:50 Those are just pretty mission background details. To find wormholes you need to use at least four scan probes launched from a probe launcher.
Edit:
Wormholes act like gates, you can't "fall in" unless you choose to activate it by right clicking on it.

That is how I found this explored average omber field.

But you didn't find a wormhole, you found an omber field. Wormholes show up as wormholes when you scan them down, and do not appear inside other sites.

If you select the spatial rift you will notice that there are no options in your selected item box for 'going through' the spatial rift. It is just a scenery object and it isn't possible to interact with it a useful way.
You will find all kinds of weird scenery objects throughout new eden. Most of them are benign. A few can damage your ship though if you get too close. So always be a bit careful.
If you find a wormhole, your scanner will clearly state that it is a wormhole and when you warp to it and approach it, your selected item box will have an option to enter the wormhole, similar to the icon that activates a stargate.

Newbie here, what happens if i go through a wormhole? I know i'll be transported to W-Space, but will the wormhole i just travelled through still be there on the other side. Or will i be dumped in the middle of space?

you will get sucked into the wormhole and thrown out on the other side with your ship in thousands of little pieces then you need to find yourself a new ship while in your pod.
no you jsut go trough and end up in another system with right next to you the other end of the wormhole (if it didn't collapse that is)

Wormholes can go to both W-Space or known space, they can be a shortcut through known space, in other words.
The wormhole stays up once you pass through, normally. There are two ways the wormhole can collapse. The wormhole decays by itself after a certain number of hours. Secondly, if enough mass passes through the wormhole, it will also collaps. In both cases, the show info box will give you a warning that the wormhole is becoming unstable and will collapse soon.

If you check the info and it says that the wormhole is reaching the end of it's natural life, then it is in the final 25% of its lifespan. If you go through it there is a good chance that it will collapse while you are inside.
Always remember to BM both ends of the wormhole and always bring probes unless you have a burning desire to start a please rescue me thread.

I jumped into a wormhole from highsec spac with my imecus. I was notified about the sleepers being awakened. I didn't bookmark my way in (figured why, I'm here). went off to explore some 100% signatures and was proptly destroyed.
Tried to warp back to the wormhole I came in, but I couldn't. So I self-destructed.
Good thing about those clones!

Actually, in some encounters a Spatial Rift object is used as a naturally-occurring warp gate, and will take you to another pocket if used.

Don't listen to this guy, he's just trying to get you killed.
Stay clear of that spatial rift if you value your ship bud, trust me!
