This is something I've always wondered. I hear about pirates forcing their victims to give up their ships. How/why do they do this? Do you have to luck into your victim being a moron, or is there some sort of leverage you can use to persuade them?
Only thing I can think of is, if you're in 0.0 and have a bubble, you could promise to let their pod go free in exchange for the ship. Is that it?

People not being able to pay for a ransom might be tempted to hand in their ship until they amass the required funds. At least I've read that happening once. So a pretty small target group I reckon. Being able to convince someone of your unblemished ransom record would help I suppose. Help us to make parrots game related today! |

Simply yelling EJECT in local sometimes works. If local fills up with a load of pirates shouting POD HIM, EJECT ! it sometimes works on a panicking target.
Other ways normally come after you ransom a target and he says he has no isk to pay. At this point, I normally say, eject and Ill pay you half the value of your ship once ive docked it. Works every now and then, especially with faction ships. You have to be fairly trusted though.
Just be careful they havent hit self destruct and are stalling

Why would you want to do this? You get no killmail this way. And since the only way someone can eject is consentually, you are unlikely to get delicious tears from them.

Edited by: Commoner on 05/05/2010 19:01:19 Sometimes just keeping the guy scrambled, and waiting a bit can get them to eject. I remember we bagged 2 free drakes in 1 hour not long ago by ejecting pilots.

Screw killmails and kilboards. Hijacking a ship is arguably the most piraty things you can do in this game. Help us to make parrots game related today! |

This is the only one I've gotten to work. Sometimes people just eject to save their pods v0v --- Vote me for CSM. Low-sec? I got that. Delayed local? You know I got that. Industry love? Oh baby I'm gonna blow. http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=1308223 |

The way I do/did it is just to be incredibly polite to the victim. Ask for ISK. If they don't have it, then request a ship to be contracted. Failing that, inquire how much their pod is worth. Then point out that we can let their pod go if they eject, otherwise we pop both ship and pod.
When explained to them in a casual, somewhat less non-threatening manner, the victim will tend to respond better. You don't really need to play the fear card any higher. They are already scared to death as it is. You want them to see a dim light of hope that they can run towards. If they get too terrified then they become petulant and do stupid things like self-destructing.

yeah they'll mostly do it to escape being pod-killed. most of the time the pirate(s) will ask the victim if they want to buy the ship back, since the logistics can be a bit of a hassle- especially if the ship's fail fit.
another trick is if the victim doesn't have the isk they can be offered the option to contract the pirate(s) ships/fittings in another station. i've never tried it myself, tho since i don't like to be sitting around for more than a minute tops. ---

Best that i heard of was in the few days i ran with the basterds, i missed out on a roam one evening and was being told it became rather profitable when they tackled a capital industrial, as soon as the industrial was tackled for whatever reason the guy ejected and warped strait to the closest gate leaving a pirate crew sat on a ship worth in the billions at the time, with no skills to use it.
I remember someone had to train capital industrial and fly out to pick it up, one of the strangest and most impressive Panic screw up i have heard about, but then again we can only make assumptions about reasoning.

There are several methods of doing this, just depends on the people involved, also depends on high/low/null.
From the victum's perspective ejecting in high/lowsec can be a surprise to the attackers and you can get your pod away. A smart idea if your ship is cheap, but you have a Billion in your head.
From the pirates perspective you can do a few things to encourage them to give up the ship and save their POD if they cannot pay.
The first trick for lowsec is to have sensor boosted ceptors/frigs around to scare the person since they can lock very quickly. The second method, one that also works in WH/Null, is to bring something with smarties to kill the ship and also pop the pod once the ship goes boom. (Remember people, when you ransom a ship you are also ransoming the pod!)
Nullsec/WH Space offers a lot more options. Dictors/HIC spheres, mobile warp disruption batteries, Stealth Bomber bombs, all are viable threats.
Of course the hard part is getting them to believe that you will honor the eject. Fortunatly some corps have their reps they can rely on, but really it is a dice roll every time.

Edited by: Apoctasy on 06/05/2010 18:01:05 The way we do it is when the pilot cannot pay ransom, if the ships is not ****, we request the pilot eject in order to save his pod.
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
EDIT: This implies we have the ships as states in the post above __________________________________________

personally, I tend to tell them they hav two options. Either pay a ransom, or eject. Otherwise, my smartbombs will pop you whn the ship explodes.

For me this tactic works best with orca pilots. Tell them they can eject in one of their barges and you will let them go free. Have gotten two free orcas in the past 3 months this way. Much better then the KM IMHO.

hold him there and tell him if he doesn't eject he will have to fight the next person coming through the gate to the death.
if he turn on self destruct, kill him and his pod and hs family and friends, and their families and friends and so on....

It's a nice idea, but to be honest, it's not very roleplay is it :/ lol or very realistic

let's put it this way, if they can stop me locking them, wtf shouldn't I be able to stop them self destructing?
if they can fly ships that size in the Universe, surely someone thought of a 'Hack' button or override
Hell even Star Trek had the Prefix codes....

I think most of the people eject for me was they didnt want the kill mail and tried to self distruct, and pushed eject on accident.
