Socket discos are pretty damn annoying and way too common these days. Don't know if I'd go quite as far as OP though. Still would be nice if they fixed it though.

It is a problem but in typical CCP fashion they stone wall these things until new patches comes out and hope it fixes it in patch. to the second poster stfu if it was happening to you, it would be a diff story

Naturally I am totally immune to socket discos [and while we are at it] lag, ignored petitions and your average run of the mill disconnects?

Usually I get one, when my DSL router restart itself. CCP has nothing to do with it.
For the topic starter, maybe check your internet connection. Especially if you use wireless.

indeed, I'm damn near 100% convinced that it is a problem somewhere between you and ccp.
I've spend way too many hours logged on and not disconnecting to believe it was anything else. and almost all my socket closed happed when my router/modem did something funny, and I lost access to everything else on the net.

I run 5 clients on 1 PC and almost never get a closed socket (can't even remember when I had the last one), once in a whilr I'll have a client crash (had one yesterday actually) but again, almost never.

I totally agree.
I have socket closed errors at the moment, and together with my ISP -after monitoring the connection for at least 5 hours using Ping Plotter- I found out my problem is a broken port mapping table in the first hop on the route to Tranquility which causes 30 to 50% packet loss, resulting in the client dropping the connection.
I realize (especially after reading most of the sticky thread in Issues, Workarounds and Localization) that this is by far not the only cause of the problem, but you might want to check the route to Tranquility (87.237.38.200) for unusual activities with Ping Plotter.
At least in my case CCP has nothing to do with it.
Now just to get my ISP to get moving and fix that damn thing...

It's one problem, but there are a ton of possible causes for it. A lot of which have nothing to do with CCP. For instance, I got it after I switched from Win7 RC to Win7 Home Premium. Couldn't get my internet connection stable on either of the on-board NICs without drastic actions. Since I don't like drastic actions which may or may not work and I had a spare PCI NIC lying around, I tried that first. Been running on that for a couple of months now with zero problems. Not much CCP could have done about that.

Sorry dude, but I have to say it probably isn't on the CCP side of the interweb. I had the same problem last fall, socket closure after socket closure. Then I replaced my Router, no more socket closures. Not sure how your hooked up (wired/wireless). I would check your router, make sure you have the lastest firmware patch. Then bug your ISP.
Hope you get it sorted.

Tossing in with the "this one is your fault" crowd.
Sure, I get these one or two times a night, but guess what? It's always the same time of night and I always drop connection on IRC at the same time. The IRC pretty much guarantees that it isn't CCPs fault, and given the time of night I suspect my ****ty ISP can't handle the load generated by everyone getting off work and online at the same time.
