Heya,
I'm doing lvl 4's atm purely for the isk. I've been told all sorts of stories about how much isk complexes can bring in.
What's the best paying complex I could handle solo? How much would it pay?
Thanks

You won't beat L4s with complexes in low-sec and high-sec. ---

the best soloable complexes are probably DED 6/10 of each race, they can bring 70mil to 1bil+ it is sort of a lottery factoring in that you'll take time to find it and average profit isn't all that high you're better off just running missons

Which corps do you do missions for? You may get a bit extra by selling standings to other people. If you do Caldari Navy missions, let me know

I've run 8/10 plexes solo with a tech II fit Nighthawk, And a 10/10 can be done with the right setups and a logistics alt.
Your isk analysis is a more or less correct though, except the minimum isk starts to ramp up at higher level plexes due to overseers artifacts dropping.
I personally find missions dull, and complexes can pay better in 0.0, with roughly equivalent security if your alliance is good with camping chokepoints/you are in a more obscure system. and further more why do i even need a sig? |

Edited by: Guillieme Lohran on 09/05/2010 14:17:08 As already stated you CAN get good money running plexes but it can be rather hit or miss. For example, I have run several Serpentis Phi Outposts. The first got me over 100mil the rest have averaged around 20 to 30 because of crappy drops. Low/Null sec plexes will average more but you get the picture.
On the other hand I also recently ran the Sansha 6/10 "War Complex," and got nearly 50 mil in bounties alone. I would have gotten a major payout had I been able to pop the last rat but got chased away by pirates.
So yes you can make bunches of money in plexes but the risk and randomness are greater. If you are just looking for a paycheck it is probably better to stick to lvl4s.

With some intensive 0.0 plexing you can make billions every week easily, even with some bad luck. It only takes a few good loot hits. Maybe the average ISK/hr doesn't differ much, but the risk and randomness (faction spawns, escalations, the tension when a nice complex shows up on scan or when you are approaching that one can that could be worth > 1 billion) makes it much more interesting (I always collapsed from complete boredom after doing missions or cosmic anomalies for a while, it sucks, it reminds me of my first holiday job as a teenager where I had to fill envelopes all day ).
As long as I can cover my PvP expenses I'm doing the most enjoyable thing to get the ISK, instead of the possibly most efficient one.

Edited by: Windorian on 10/05/2010 19:35:55 Agreed with last post, lvl 4's are by far more reliable paycheck, but nothing compares to a complex that takes you 2 1/2 hours to urn solo, you get an expedition to 6 jumps over, right in enemy space, and you have wonder how much it's worth to you. You can get 1bil from a single drop in tehse plexes, or you can walk away with just the 20-40mil in bounties and maybe 30mil in loot. You never know, and that's the point. You don't get the same adrenaline in high sec.

Don't mean to hijack the thread. What is the difference between an anomaly and a complex? Just recently started playing, and have dabbled, and so far enjoyed the exploration side of things.

A Cosmic Anomaly are basic plexes that you can find with your directional scanner and usually appear close to/around planets. They can escalate or have a faction spawn, but it's rare.
A Cosmic Signature is a plex you have to scan out and will fall between the category of 1/10 to 4/10 (high-sec) 5/10 - 7/10 (low-sec) and 8/10 to 10/10 (0.0). The higher it is, the more difficult, but the better the reward. 1/10 - 3/10 drop deadspace frigate modules such as a Pithi B-Type Small Shield Booster, where as 4/10 - 6/10 drop cruiser mods and 7/10 to 10/10 drop battleship mods. A plex from a signature has a far higher chance of spawning faction rats and escalating, as well as fancy loot, except for drone plexes.

I'm going to nit-pick a little here. Anomalies are found using the on-board scanner, rather then directional scanner (d-scan).

Woops, you're right, I keep mixing them up when it comes to anomalies.

I would say this:
L4s in high-sec give you a stable, predictable income. You can log in, run the mission and know that you will be 10-40mil isk richer at the end of it.
Complexes do not work like this. You have to navigate low-sec/null-sec, scan down a plex, hope its a good one and then of course kill all the rats. Complexes are also not a straight run - you sometimes need to 'escalate' them by finding hidden triggers that tell you to go to other systems and the rats tend to be more varied than level 4s. As a result, the income is more random. You might spend 3-5 hours getting nothing or 45 minutes raking in hundreds of mil - it is very random! Don't expect an isk-farm like L4s.
You will find faction drops in hi and low sec as well as null sec - don't let people tell you otherwise. Clearly the really big drops will be in null sec but you can get good stuff from low-sec too if you're lucky.
If you like the idea of a challenge and the chance/lottery of random big drops then give them a try.
