So over the last month or two I've been training my alt to fly a rattlesnake for the purpose of tanking level 5 missions. However, as her skills got better I started using her to tank level 4's while my Paladin goes all out gank (tracking enhancers, heat sinks, tracking computers out the ass).
So heres the thing, the paladin setup I'm using is thin... paper thin, like 10 seconds of aggro = bb 1 billion isk ship thin.
I tend to be very paranoid and like to take into account the "random possible disconnects" when doing a mission. And just tonight, as if to further my fears, my second client with the rattler disconnected not once, but twice after jumping into the Worlds Collide for no apparent reason (I then changed my password. Paranoid remember?).
And so, as the post title suggests, I came up with a brilliant, yet potentially stupid idea to keep my tank in game long enough to escape should the tanks client randomly disconnect, logout, freeze, etc etc.
So my question to you guys is. Do you think this is a good idea? Or is this somehow going to bite me in the ass?

As soon as the player disconnects all rats will drop aggression, regardless of whether the vessel warps away or not.
Therefore, with your tank scrambled as it disconnects, the rats will switch to your main and as either your Paladin dies or warps away as will the rattlesnake.
It would be far, far wiser to simply close both accounts as one disconnects and log the tank back in first. -----

If that were the case, death due to disconnects would never happen.

A better idea is to simply warp the Paladin out as soon as you realise the Rattlesnake has disconnected. The NPCs will take care of warp scrambling for you.

It would still happen û the problem is that it may not always be clear to the server that the client has gone AWOL. ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

While i was missioning almost all losses i had where coming from just stupid technical problems with my internet connection. I lost so many drones and some very expensive ships only because of that. Petitions never worked, because the answer was simply thats its not a server issue.

Still no, get two accs in fleet on a mission, ctrl+q one and watch his ship from another. He drops fleet so server knows he's disconnected, but rats keep shooting until his ship goes into emergency warp. Rat scramblers don't prevent emegerncy warps IIRC

NPC warp scramblers prevent emergency warp just like any other warp scrambler. I know this from painful personal experience.

Edited by: Mendolus on 14/05/2010 02:03:46 This is why my secondary account is always in a drone boat. I fit a fairly decent tank on it, and use the drones to AFK snipe away at ships on grid while I do most of the killing on my main. Using a Dominix, or a Proteus even, I can get a large or medium repper to supplement my main account too so I can choose to run a slightly smaller tank and fit more gank.
IMO secondary accounts should be support and if possible standard DPS, if you wanna have max gank, get in a boat on your main that has high alpha, but can till squeeze on a decent tank.
As was pointed out in a thread talking about the peak performance bonus you get when dual boxing, someone pointed out that if you're using two gunboats with high alpha, that you'll end up wasting time picking your targets every 2-3 seconds, which decreases efficiency and is extremely irritating IMO.
That's why I use drone deeps on my secondary account, it may be less than I could get with a gunboat, but the DPS is consistent enough that I can set sentries on a battlecruiser or normal cruiser, look away for 5-6 seconds to retarget on the Golem, and then when I glance at the sentries again, they've killed their target and I then choose another.
Plus if the Golem d/c, the secondary boat has a sufficient enough tank to survive long enough to pop scramblers and bail.
