Edited by: Ethum2 on 11/05/2010 17:34:30 I`ve been thinking to train an alt for a hulk but i`m not sure anymore that its worth it since the PI is around the corner and i guess the minerls will drop very low. Any suggestions? Thanks asd |

I don't think that the mining ores are going to drop low. There is some adjustment that is going to take place but PI won't have an affect on it directly. I would think it would have the opposite because more people will be trying out the PI and there will be less ore on the market; therefore driving prices up...PI does not yield the ore that comes from mining, so there is not going to be an alternate source for those materials.

Also in the new expansion, loot drops from mission NPCs will be nerfed. There will be far fewer minerals coming from re-processing, and therefore one would imagine that mining would be more profitable.

It's somewhat difficult to know exactly what will happen to mineral prices in a week. On one hand, mission wrecks will no longer drop Tech-1 Meta-0 items, reducing the amount of minerals entering the market via reprocessing.
On the other hand, ship insurance will now scale in relation to actual market value of minerals, not some made-up mineral value that CCP has been using in the past. In other words, this removes an artificial floor in the value of all T1 ships in the game, and by derivation it removes a floor on the value of minerals.
They are also going to rebalance 'roid distribution and drone compound refining values. That could go either way in affecting mineral prices.
My guess? Hisec minerals will drop in value, while anything that normally comes from lowsec/nullsec ores will go up. I suspect a large amount of tritanium and pyerite comes from afk and macro miners in hisec, while a decent amount of lowsec ore minerals (e.g. noxcium and zydrine) available in empire are coming from reprocessed loot.
That's just my 0.02 isk, though. I don't even really trust myself enough to try to play the market. It'll be a nice eve-peen boost if I turn out to be right! |

The resources extracted from planets is not the same as the ore/minerals you get from asteroids or reprocessing items.
If anything, the mineral changes (which is unrealted to planetary interaction) should be good for miners. At least, the stated intent is for mining activity to be the primary driver behind mineral prices.
