Just curious to find out if t2 probing ships (buzzard, helios etc.) are necessary for finding high end plexes (10/10 for example) or do they merely make it faster/quicker/safer? Right now I am rocking a Heron with frigate V and astrometrics and its support skills all at III. Anyone know? I have been asking around but so far I havnt been able to find a defeinite answer.
Thanks in advance!

You've pretty much got it: it can be done in other ships, but it's just much easier and safer in a CovOps, at least as far as the actual scanning process is concerned. There are plenty of ways to make up for the lost scan strength bonus, but those tend to cost a fair amount, and they don't give you the nice package deal of also giving you a ship that cloaks and has plenty of slots for all the (non-combat) things you might want to do at a site.
If you actually want to do something more than just scan things down and hack/analyse/decode a few cans, though, a different ship is often to be preferred, since they can do the same things (albeit with a bit more help), but also a wide variety of more hands-on stuffą like blowing up the nasty evil yummy rats that tend to inhabit those sites. ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

T2 ships give greater bonuses than T1 variants, they come in handy when finding high-end complexes, besides the ability to warp cloaked. I guess with perfect skills you could find 10/10 with T1 frigs, but being in a cov-ops makes this a lot easier and safer.

In high & low sec very few signatures seems to need a bonus rigged ship to be found. I don't know about 0.0.
When you try to probe ships, rigged and bonus ships make a HUGE difference sometimes.

Check your probes you are fittet at the launcher. Look for Scan Strengh. For 10/10 complexes and some other 0.0 Sigs you need a scan strengh of 90 better 95 to get them on 100%.
You can get this Scan strengh with a T1 frig with faction equip too. But whats cheaper cover op or Sister launcher+Sister probes ? :-)

The most difficult to find sites (0.0) are only scanable with a rigged faction fittet covops.
In high and low-sec all sites can be found even with a non bonused ship.

Not entirely true, in hi-sec some sites (a couple of gravimetrics and magnetometrics) are virtually impossible to scan out with say a drake where a heron could probe it out with the same skills.
When your exploration skills are maxed however, you can find virtually everything in hi/lowsec with scanner probes on any ship that can fit it yes. I however normally use combat probes in lowsec and a bonus ship (covops) is no luxury then as their scan strenght is lower then normal scan probes.

He mean, when your skills are at 5, you should be ok with faction launcher/probes on a none bonus ship. Hmm i just checked on EFT, on a regular BS, sister launcher+sister probes = Scan strengh 55. That should be ok for the mosttime of HiSec sig's.

I had trouble with some hi-sec gravimetric sig once, with a TI (bonused) frigate, I think I was above 55 strenght. But I might be mistaken.
