Edited by: Jerid Verges on 16/05/2010 19:08:45 The description on the Harvester Mining drone is "The most efficient Mining Drone money can buy" They have a pretty hefty price tag. Logically, if you are paying the kind of money for a Harvester, then you should be getting good performance. This is not the case.
T2 Mining Drones outperform Harvesters in every way, shape, and form. Including Price.
Why are T2's better?
-Half the volume at 5m3 (Which allows on a Covetor or Hulk a flight of light combat drones) -Twice the speed at 500m/s -Has the exact same HP and EHP as the Harvester at no additional cost -Is roughly 433 times cheaper (According to Eve Central Statistics)
Why is a Harvester better? -It can mine 5m3 more
Of course. Even with that extra 5m3 per cycle. The T2 Mining Drone manages to OUTMINE the Harvester. Why? Because the Harvester travels at 250m/s. Most miners look for a spot in the belt that allows their Strips to hit as many asteroids as possible without having to move. This means that most miners will never be closer then 5000m to an asteroid unless they are lucky, 10k if unlucky.
Proposal -Increase the Harvester cargo capacity by 4x over the Mining Drone II -Double the HP of the Harvester. If these get popped so easily there is no point in having them at all since a full flight costs as much as loosing a Hulk. -Increase mining capacity by 20m3 at the least.
Possibly lower the build costs as a somewhat alternative with milder boosts, however I don't see CCP doing that.

the bandwith argument is totally useless. as you can only field 5 drones at once anyway.
you mostlikely mean drone volume?

Wait. You're right.
But it's still the same. Volume is 2x as well. So, you can only fit a single flight of Harvesters and nothing else.

I think your argument is based on the cost of Harvester drones and the (very, very) old description text.
Harvester drones don't drop anymore to my knowledge so in the inevitable law of supply and demand they will only get more expensive as more nubtards lose them.
T2 drones came out later and yes, they are better. Thats progress.

So why even have Harvester Drones then? The only people who buy them are people who don't know any better.
The point is that there should be something WORTH getting here.
Quote: Harvester drones don't drop anymore to my knowledge so in the inevitable law of supply and demand they will only get more expensive as more nubtards lose them.
So, by logic, Hulks have only gotten more expensive since they have been introduced. Since demand for them has only been increasing.
But that's not the case.
If you create a demand, then a supply must follow. Nobody makes Harvester drones because its incredibly difficult to sell them, Eve Central states that around 80 were sold and bought in every region of Eve.
Remember, Demand does not only affect price. So does supply.

Maybe a better idea: Triple the cargo, cycle time and quantity for cycle like with strip miners - so while the quantity mined/s remain the same you'll cut by three the time lost while moving from and to roids, making them actually more efficient than the 500m/s moving t2 mining drones. And at the same time you balance this advantage with the disavantage of losing efficience when the roid pops and the drone hasnt done a full cycle (like with strippers vs regular mining lasers) and of them still be slow like molasses so you'll lose them when bailing out of the belt from ostiles.

Nobody makes Harvester drones because you can't make Harvester drones. They were found in loot from NPC haulers years ago but that's no longer the case, eventually they will all be gone, save for a few in collections.
No point changing them unless they get reintroduced.

Oh wow. I had no idea.
Forget the thread then. No sense in trying to boost a collector's item.
