Edited by: Dezrin on 17/05/2010 07:04:17 Edited by: Dezrin on 17/05/2010 07:01:26 Greetz! I made a T3 Calculator post a while ago, but as I have friends going into the market and I'm leaving it, I'd like to make a thread for them (and you guys) to leave feedback.
The original was locked due to inactivity, so thats why.
This is the original thread with download links as well as a web host for the SWF if you dont want to download.
Let me know what you guys think, if you so choose
*EDIT: I've been making subsystems for about a year now, well over 250 subsystems and a dozen or two ships. It was very profitable back in the day-still is, too. Good luck to you guys! -------------

God this sucks.
Sorry for my harsh words But this isn't a program. This is a badly styled something. Good programs are easy to use, have a good layout and are NOT coded in Flash: - Use a good, simple layout and design, no fancy stuff like at the moment, and primarily no background images! This isn't a game! - Use one layout scheme for all forms/windows/whatever; Don't place that one button there, then another button with the same functionality somewhere completely else. Stick to one! - DONT USE FLASH! I'm Flash developer for a living, I like it and the AS-language and do many private flash projects... but please: don't use Flash for something like that!
I didnt bother looking at the functionality, since I'm not into PI much, so sorry for that
Please don't be mad at me! Just wanted to help you Hope you can improve that program and many people will use it!
Cerl
PS: For a reference what I call a clear and good layout, check my Ore Table: http://ore.cerlestes.de/ - People always tell me that it is very easy to use and a good design!

lol wow-ouch. I thought it was fun and had character, rather than some boring thing made by nerds only for nerds. Saying it isn't a program though? Damn, now I'm a sad panda.

Wow again. Uh... yes it is? Geeze.

LOL!! Well no wonder you didn't like it, you are used to Excel. "Good layout" Awe c'mon, Excel is boring, predictable and has no character at all.
I specifically didn't want to force the user to feel like this was work.
Sorry ya didn't like it, but thanks for the feedback! Though I can appreciate your suggestions, I'm not making this program for some corporate entity... its for fellow gamers who are here to have fun, not work.
Thanks though! -------------

Seeing as you're slagging off Excel for it being too boring I should add that user-interface design is VERY important if you want your application to be used. It doesn't matter about the graphics or the whistles, as long as the numbers are accurate, easy to read and intuitive to follow, you'll get your fans and your hard work will be appreciated.
While there are many great spreadsheets out there that does similar things, if you want to compare and contrast spreadsheets on a User Interface level, check out my sig, Akita T's sheet and Dedaf's works.
When you understand the importance of the user interface, incorporate your own new design features in to your application and release it back to the world, as long as you know your figures are correct of course. No point changing the UI when the formulas are borked.

Excel fans unite? lol
Sidrat, thats exactly what I'm talking about. While I'm sure you put a lot of hard work into that Excel sheet, and I'm sure your own calculations and formula are working as well-it has no character. It just doesn't look fun, and thats why I made mine like I did: fun.
About 6-8 clicks of the mouse and you can have the entire list of Tech 3 ship materials saved to the clipboard specifically formatted to Eve Online notepad.
Excel has its uses, and I use it for quite a few things in Eve myself-but its NOT something I would force on others in a game.
And I have to ask... did you actually look at my program/interface or are you just defending Excel? lol -------------
