Edited by: Spurty on 18/05/2010 17:06:27 easy route to riches, start one character and get them into mwd'ing frigates, stop here at around 300k skill points or something.
Start a 'real character', spend the first weeks skilling learning skills.
While this is occurring, use your first character to go out and 'loot' anything and everything. SELL IT, even if its rock bottom prices. Just amass some isk. Scooping drones is lucrative.
Use this isk to buy your main character a set of +3s.
Carry on looting battlefields. Check killboards for where to go.
You're in a free ship at this time, with zero penalty for dying. Be bold and brave. DIVE IN THERE and loot, then leggit and sell.
Rinse and repeat until you're either A) Dizzy or B) bored by considerably richer than your average n00b at this point in their career.
I've amassed over 40mill on a n00b character that can barely fit an MWD to a malus in about 2 days.
This way you can 'meet' the challenge and yet, not give someone all your stuff (What sort of gullible tool are you anyway?) "for safe keeping".

I will echo what others are saying here. Don't do it, it's a scam. If you built yourself up from start before there is no reason to have to prove that you could do it again to these people. They are either a) jealous, b) trying to scam you or c) both.
If you really want to accept such a challenge then make a new account and pay for it with a couple of plexs but transfer no isk or modules. Then use the full api key for that account to let them monitor your wallet activity. No way in hell you should transfer all your stuff to the corp or let anyone have access to you account info. Just a disaster waiting to happen.

Starting over again is quite an interesting experience, I rolled a new toon about 6 months ago and was shocked at how hard it is to solo pvp without T2 guns and support skills, even when I tackled for a gang I was always bottom of the killmail.
Making money was pretty easy though, far easier than 3 years ago (Though that could be because I know the game better now). Ninja salvaging and Jita station trading was the route I chose because the returns are much faster than mission running, the problem was not having enough SP to fly all the ships I could buy.
As for the challenge do it for fun of you want but not because some jelous wee scrote told you to. To the people crying scam you should learn to read the OP, he was talking about moving stuff to his own holding corp and at no point did he say he'd be giving his log in details to another person. _______

Ah yes, thanks for pointing that out, misread that the first time.

I like the idea of starting over.
I have recently startet and alt to get a different perspective.
What I think you should do is get the challenge into perspective. And set up some rules. What is the success criteria? having lots of isk or standing in a flashing ship at the end?
personally I think you should tell him that you will meet him in an equal classed duel after a set time frame. Then kick his ass. Using only the isk and accesories that you have earned.

Isn't the fact that you've already done it once enough to alleviate any second thoughts you might have about your abilities? Just tell him to challenge himself to get to your position in a few years ;)

Don't bother, i can give you the answer you're looking for right now. I just recently started this alt, juts for the fun. just whit the tutorial missions you will earn a couple mil isk. By investing this in the jita market and trading you can get to 1 bil isk in a month by playing 3 hours a day and 5 hours on sunday if you have no market expierence.
this stand in real contrast when i furst started out 5 years a go had no clue what i was doing and needed 2 months to get 100 mil isk. Back then you stared with 30k sp, no usefull tutorial that got you isk and skillbooks and no 100% gain in sp till 1.5m sp.

Originally by: Extraho Rector A friend of mine challenged me to a "Noobship Challenge" and I'm wondering whether to do it or not?
The Goal of this challenge is to prove to my fellow corp mates that I dont need my flashy ships and fitting to do what I do. So I'd have to go back to basics, give everything up and get my 5k inheritance rewards and a Velator (Standard Nuub Gubbins).
It all started when a guy in my mains corps said I can only do what I do because of the iskies I have now and if I had to start over like he had to I'd crash and burn.
The terms of the challenge are as follows:- I transfer all my isk bar 5k ISK to my holding corp I transfer all my assets to the holding corp I can't accept any donations from friends I can buy items from friends or the holding corp for jita prices I can run missions with friends but I have to get them myself A RL EVE playing friend will be checking my transactions to verify I didnt transfer isk to myslef to boost my progress.
So should I accept and prove to this guy and my peers that I can still thrive even with the basics (it could be fun starting over again though) or just say no and keep all my beautiful shiny things.
Ex
Don't bother making a new character for this challenge as the results will be skewed anyway. You might only have 5k to start and all but like any game the isk/currency is tight to start with.
Plus making a new character won't make you a newbie again as you have learnt too much in this game and you will progress quicker than a new person because of your knowledge of the game.

Exactly.
After about age 12, most people have enough self esteem that they can't be manipulated by challenges and dares. Sober, of course.
On the oft chance that is not you, then I think that you are too lazy, stupid and incompetent to send me half your assets and make them all back within a year.
I triple dog dare you!

Hell, I have done this a few times on my own out of pure boredom. The first time I did it was shortly after they introduced salvaging and I wanted to see if I could make a new account and pay for upgrading the trial solely from salvaging whatever I could finagle (beg missioners to let me follow, learned to probe them out when they refused, went to lowsec battlegrounds etc). That was a pretty fun 2 weeks, if I had spent more time I would have made enough to activate probably, but my play time was rather limited so oh well. In the end I was able to get a little over 150m isk in the 2 weeks, which isn't too bad for a newbie imo.
The 2nd experiment is actually still going, but this time the purposes are a little more nefarious and details will have to just be left to ones imagination . --------------------------------------------

The way to deal with this is to fit a Velator for PVP and go kill your friend in one of his awesome failships.

I've never sold a time code, I've bought them for game time only.
When I bought a character it was with the isk I collected through playing.
With Chribba responding I feel honoured lol. EX
Who's Chribba anyway? From the look of it, he's just another EVE player. A mere Earth human, my equal. Yet it seems he has a congregation of fans and I don't. What gives?

Originally by: Extraho Rector The reason my friend suggested it was he seems to think that its harder now to get isk than when I started 3 years ago, so it was more of a "I bet you can't do it again" thing.
It's not. When a new char has been through the 5 tutorial missions it'll sit on most of the necessary basic skill books, the top fighter frigate of it's race, a destroyer of it's race and around 5 million isk. Just from doing those.
If you follow up by doing the epic arc you'll be well into your first cruiser when you come out of it and have around 10-15 million in your bank account.
What makes the game hard for newbies these days is the knowhow, if you know how to fit ships and what to do to earn isk it's not going to be a problem. But you'll see tons of new players asking "where do I go now" once they finish the tutorials and/or epic arc. ;)
But hey if you think it'll be a fun challenge, go for it.

Edited by: Feng Schui on 19/05/2010 09:10:33 i can't count the amount of times that I had to "start over"
Such is the life of a crappy pirate that likes to fly stuff that he really can't afford at all
edit: i agree with everyone else; skills, isk, and ships doesn't make the player successful or not, its the player's experience that determines whether or not he will be successful with any of these types of challenges in eve.
just take a look at the MD forums.. there are quite a few people that do alt "challenges".. iirc, the current holder to the title is going from 5k isk to 3 billion in a month

Thanks for the feedback, and the scam warnings but they weren't necessary. The Holding Corp is 100% mine, the only member is an alt of mine, the corps more like my savings account.
Odds are I'll roll an alt on a trial and see what I can do if i like it I'll subscribe it.
