that's incorrect by a long shot. example: I had just grabbed a loot container (pre-exodus) and was shuffling out of Youl system when i warped next to stargate and got a surprise popup...hastily reading it i realized my mistake. while i was reading this i heard a target lock sound coming from the customs agent.
you heard me right. that usually means one thing. now, i didn't take the time to wait patiently for the lock to complete (strange, i'd heard it was instalock) and ejected, saving myself and my partial cargo expander loaded bestower.
you're saying that the custom agent would have merely locked, but not fired? sorry, i don't buy that. ______________________ Best darned links ingame and out (backup) |

Edited by: Myyona on 08/12/2004 08:27:00 The message you get from the customs clearly states that they're going to target, warp scamble and jam your ship for your own "convenience". It also tells that you must hand over the items or be fired at. The only thing you have to do is accept for them to take your goods and nothing else will happen. Of course you'll get a fine and the faction standing loss can't be avoided. +----------------------------------+ Food and shelter save lifes, guns doesn't. |

Liscensing would be nifty! Especially if it were also faction-dependent -- so you could purchase a general liscence from, say, Concord to transport some restricted goods (small arms, say) for a limited period of time in all territory -- but you could also get a life-time pass for arms carrying in the Khanid Kingdom for being a loyal pilot. That sort of thing. Combine this with, say, systems, weapons or ships you may need liscensing for...

Hmmm yea my bad, the change was the police don't automatically fire at you after X seconds if you don't jettison the goods, now you actually get a popup message. It's still alot safer than it was before though, you won't lose your ship if you simply give the police the right answer.

Well, you do lose quite a bit of standing, dont you ? And since faction standings havent been exactly fun and easy to work up lately......
Wouldnt it be possible to just have the agent get the slaves or other contraband through the Assets tab ? Sort of an escrow dealie ?

How hard hitting are these costums guys? is it possible to tank them if you use instas and warp stabs, and get stuff where you want it after all? and will you take a staning hit at every gate? and is the fine everytime aswell, and do you get it even though you don't give them what they want?

It isn't supposed to be impossible. If it is, or if the risk isn't worth it, then that is a bug for the contraband balancing team.
There is a "Contraband Balancing Team"? lol

Originally by: Zrakor Well technically they aren't treated like slaves, they are treated very well in your ship (despite being put into your cargo hold, they really are not located next to your stash of biohazard).
I always assumed that when I carried homeless in my Raven they drank my booze :(
And that the slaves were in the cargo hold polishing my torpedoes

At this point I just space slaves when I get them. Aamzingly enough Concord seems to have no issues with this practice. :)

There isn't a team of people working just on balancing contraband, no. But there are a couple people with the responsibility of setting up contraband demand, setting up the customs officials, and dealing with the contraband issues generally speaking (among other things).

My experience is similar, except that not only was I target locked, but I was fired upon. Even after answering the question with "Yes, please take the contraband and fine me and give me a standing hit... I'd much rather that than to lose 3 local hull (27%) cargo expanders."
And I still went pop. FYI, this was early on in the deployment of Exodus, and no, I hadn't played on Singularity so lethal response for contraband was a complete surprise.
And yes, I have a (*still*) unresolved petition on this.

"It isn't supposed to be impossible. If it is, or if the risk isn't worth it, then that is a bug for the contraband balancing team."
Hmm i played with the contraband for a while today. It appears that you're pretty much guaranteed to have the contraband discovered within 1-2 gate jumps. You are then warp-scrambled and webified, leaving no way to escape... plus, when i tried to just use speed to reach the gate, my autopilot wouldn't jump when the contraband was discovered. Leaving one no apparent option but to allow customs take the contraband items once they are discovered. (and from what i understand, they are discovered in all cases that don't involve things which are bordering on exploits)
So the question is... just how the 'contraband balancing team' imagines the process of carrying the contraband through multiple jumps is supposed to work, technically? When the item is confiscated on the first stop it's discovered and when it's discovered within 1-2 jumps... you can as well confiscate it the very moment i put it in the cargo and undock, saves me the time and the end effect is the same 100% of the time. o.O
oh and btw the actual standing hits i was getting were 0.2 each time i was caught, as opposed to 0.1 that both the item legality tab and the eve mail i was getting stated as penalty... bug, or case of cryptic security hit calculation? ^^;;

Got a mission to deliver 1260 units of small arms, and i would get close to 9.000.000 isk.
Let's do some math: Let's say I can buy the small arms for 2.000.000 isk total. I need to travel to 5 different stations to get them all, all stations more then 6 jumps away. The chance I get caught is 99.99999% or something like that. The fine would be, in total, 10.0000.000 if I get caught 1 time every run, and after that can make a run that succeeds.
So I spent 12.000.000 isk to get 9.000.000 isk?
Never mind..

I would think you should be allowed to use a gate if you are close enough to jump. You should be able to run from the customs agents if you are making a contraban run. This would be similar to moonshine or drug smugglers in USA.
I can see it now:
Bubba Pirate loads up his General Lee interceptor with Illegal goods. He shouts out into his Capsule, "Yehhaa Hawww! Eat mah dust space copper!!" Zooms off towards his destination gate at 10km/s blowing past a too slow custom police frig trying to get a lock. The Customs agent calls the possy in the next system to set up an ambush at the next gate. Bubba pops out of warp, hits the nitro button and jumps past the possy on his tail making it safely to a more friendly region. Bubba smiles and says "CHANG CHING!!" as he coasts into the awaiting station on the other side of the county (Region) line.
