Thats a plugin for pidgin that interfaces with AlienFX and has the C files to do so. I think in order to do this however someone would have to come up with a 3rd part version of AlienFX Command Center thingy that listens for the API calls and then forwards it to the "device" which could be anything if you control the command center.
____ <t20> i want to be in a manager potition at Hooters <SaraDawn> Garthagk, do you have it up ? <Garthagk> I can get it up anytime. |

Nice find, and yea w/ the custom command center deal we would be able to interface with anything we wanted, G1x hardware, X10 API's, etc.

yes, there are a few tools around. you can even still download old lightfx1.1.1 api from dell and take a look at the provided .dll. I didn't find the new ones.
As it seems, you can download the command center for 64-bit windows only - and no, I am not going to install 64-bit on my machine. So I won't find out if the command center is needed for the lightfx sdk to really work.
what I did so far is just take a look at what the old lightfx dll's are doing.. and probably they are really just calling another api - I didn't capture any usb traffic.
anyway, I won't go into disassembling the dll to find out.
someone with windows 64-bit: get this command center, install it, fire up eve and see if you can select lightfx settings in the ESC display&graphics menu. gogo!

Giving this a bump, as a G15 owner I would love to see this functionality added.

I have started looking into it and have made some progress on this. Will have to see how it goes though, I don't have much time available to work on it.

Edited by: Billa Prona on 27/06/2010 09:25:00 This dll is causing my client to crash when I log off and I have not been able to identify what is specifically causing this. Here is the error message that is being created in my event viewer:
Faulting application name: ExeFile.exe, version: 6.30.2.23141, time stamp: 0x4bf6eb98 Faulting module name: LightFX.dll, version: 1.0.5.0, time stamp: 0x4bbcdfdb Exception code: 0xc0000005 Fault offset: 0x0000175c Faulting process id: 0x15bc Faulting application start time: 0x01cb15d759b277dd Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\CCP\EVE\bin\ExeFile.exe Faulting module path: C:\Windows\system32\LightFX.dll Report Id: da461c3a-81ca-11df-b854-0025648c071a
My system specs: Alienware Aurora Intel Core i7 920 @ 2.67 ghz Ram: 9GB OS: Windows 7 (64 bit) Gfx: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260
I have attempted a re-install to see if this would fix it, but to no avail.
Any and all help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Please note I am not affiliated with CCP or Alienware in anyway, but I can tell you that your crash is caused by a failed call to LFX_Release().
I hate to say it but EVE's AlienFX support is, at best, buggy. Like many alienfx users I am unable to get EVE to trigger alienfx calls on TQ but can occassionally get it working on sisi. Take note I am not using an alienfx device, I am using the G15 since I am trying to build the G15 support using alienfx support, which is currently basically working for me on SiSi sometimes.
Until CCP fixes the alienfx support I am going to have a lot of trouble testing this and don't see a point in releasing it since people will just say that my product doesn't work... which is actually not true since EVE itself is not putting out the alienfx calls when the triggers are hit.

Command Center RC 2.5.44 - This can be installed on any machine (and can be uninstalled once done with the next part).
Inside the installation folder, you will find AlienFX SDK, which includes the DLL's, headers, samples, etc. Copy the folder elsewhere, then you can uninstall the CC.
Create a dummy DLL which reports the presence of AlienFX modules if the calling app is Eve, and make functions for when lighting calls are made by eve which call the G1x LCD SDK...
(If I have time, I'll play with it some)

That is exactly what I have done. However, on tranquility on one of my accounts it works perfectly, from this account, nothing. Not a single call to any of the lighting APIs. Also, the G15 LCD SDK has nothing to do with the lighting on the g15. It will let you toy around with LCD but has nothing in it for changing the lighting on the keys, this has to be done manually using the USB HID setFeature API.
As for "stop trying to hack it".... who's trying. I succeeded, and just because you can get the alienfx support working beautifully doesn't mean anything to me. Yes, mine is a custom integration, but there are many legit alienware users who can't get it working either.

very interesting that you were able to get it working...sorta. What do you think is causing the intermittent operation?

To be honest, it seems to work perfectly for me when I'm in high sec missions and NPCs scramble me. Do you know if it only works with NPCs or only in high sec?
