So as far as I can tell, there aren't any fully functional, up to date combat log analyzers. So i've decided to write one and I wanted a bit of input from anyone who might use it as to what features it should have. At the moment it's a very basic thing that tells you who did damage to you, how much they did in the fight, average hit, dps etc.
What other things should a good combat analyzer do?
If anyone knows of any good functional log analyzers, please point me in their direction so I don't waste my time doing something that's already been done...
Cheers, Wolfhound490.

Edited by: T2thePA on 19/05/2010 17:24:25 Check this out:

It's pretty old and I think not maintained any more. I heard people seem to have problems with current EVE logs. It still works more or less for me (I did not verify the results and I don't really use it anymore).
Rewriting is not the worst idea... You might be able to "steal" some ideas as the developer put a lot of effort in the damage graphs and statistics.
Biggest problem with combat log analyzers in general is the missing information about the damage your drones did. And the weapon groups (if you prefer to group your weapons) cannot be taken into account. So a lot of statistics are somehow obsolete, e.g. "best shot" statistics...
I hope that helps. Regards T2
Edit:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/evecombatlog/
is the new location. Looks like development continues. |

I think you've both linked to the same program the depends on the 1.4 .NET framework which is rather frustrating. Also i've found it does tend to crash alot. I'm writing in java so it should give better compatibility and the ability to put it in an applet on a website.
I doubt mine will ever be quite as indepth as that particular log analyzer, I was thinking more along the lines of the old QuickFit log analyzer, copy and paste the log to get basic stats about the fight.

Yeah, it is the same tool (see edit in my first post)
It is not really what you would call stable software, anyways respect to the guy who took over the code. I just checked out the new version...
Java sounds nice. But I suggest you also allow to scan a complete directory and the GUI allows to select just a few lines of combat or a single log file. (That's one of the cool features in the EVE-CLA)
I think the log analysis is one of the easier parts of the software... I have to admit I hate to implement GUIs.

Chribba has made one as well, though it's not to great, but none of them are because there's a real lack of useful info in the logs. Still, I'd like to see something pretty made just because I like looking at graphs :P

is quiet nice, grouped guns throw it off though for dps count. |

Edited by: Diabolick on 27/05/2010 02:59:50 Question is, will it show the following:
1.How far apart the ships were when engagement began, 2.The capacitor and shield/armour/hull % of each ship at the start of the engagement, 3.The speed of both ships (considering its a 1v1) 4.All damage notifications (so the attacker can see how much dps his drones are actually doing) - currently only the defender see's these, 5.Steps 1,2,3 in say 5 second intervals
ATM all your building is a turret dps analyzer. There are at least 10 things I can name of the top of my head that are not related as directly to pilot sp and will decide the outcome of a battle.
A 3rd person programme, that tells you what you did wrong in a fight, and how to overcome it in round 2, is already available. Its called EXPERIENCE. |

You should get the first person version, should work better.

I have written one for myself and shared it with a few people. As others have said, there is not a whole lot you can get from the logs. To be specific the answer to all 5 of your questions is No, that data is not in the logs.

I use that one as well. You can see the graph and compare with what you have to understand the engagement. I mainly use it to know how much damage my drones did (get the KM damage and substract the gun damage)
