Edited by: NightmareX on 20/05/2010 22:48:35 Hello ladies and gentlemen.
Not so long time ago (today) Google announced their new Android OS called 'Android 2.2 (Froyo)'. You can see more info about it at THIS link.
Now eat that iPhone OS 4 (Apple). What are you gonna make / do to beat anything of that?.
I own a Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10i and i'm sooooooooooo looking forward to get that to my phone. Seriously, i can't wait for it.
So, i have some thing i really want to discuss.
Well first, personally i think that Android 2.2 is so good that it's going to kick iPhone OS 4 and probably Windows Phone 7 really really hard in the butt to be honest. I simply don't see ANYTHING that iPhone OS 4 / Windows Phone 7 have a chance against on what Android 2.2 / 2.x can do.
I have had my Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 for like 1 week now, and by that week Android 1.6 (even though Android 1.6 is old and outdated) have managed to impress me so much with the OS that i can't see how iPhone OS 4 or Windows Phone 7 is going to be a success in any possible ways in the future.
Secondly. Let me hear anything you think it's good and bad with Android 2.2. And let me hear it so we can discuss both the positive things and the negative things with Android.
Third. While i'm talking about iPhone here, i just have to link THIS. If that's the case with the iPhone, then i'm extremely glad that i'm never ever gonna buy that crap.
And of course, lets discuss the things with iPhone that CNET was talking about in the link i posted here to.
Ok, let the discussion start.

People need to abandon flash and move on with something new. A related open-source technology perhaps.
It's a clunky framework, and isn't needed for 98% of the things it's used for. The only thing i've seen it do well is play music files on band sites, and slow down perfectly fine computers.
Oh, and I almost forgot. I just made you read my signature. |

No, more like this.

What made you not impressed with Android?. Tell me something iPhone or Windows Mobile have that Android doesn't have, for example.

I find the interface just really clunky - it just doesn't agree with me.
The on-screen keyboard just isn't as good as the one on the iPhone either.
I have an iPhone 3G and a rooted and re-flashed HTC Hero running 2.1 and try as I may I just can't like Android, no matter how much I want to.
The APIs are an utter joy to code with, but the OS itself just feels really clunky.

I'm gonna ask though.
When Android 2.2 is fully released on all smartphones that can have it and that. Then tell me some reasons why you would buy an iPhone 4G with iPhone OS 4 or any other devices with Symbian OS over any other 1.x GHz Snapdragon deviced with Android 2.2?.

Owner of a Motorola Droid, I love the Android 2.0 OS. For me, it has all of the functionality of the iPhone, and then some. The multitasking in particular is an excellent feature that Apple's products are still lacking.
I read about 2.2 about 2 weeks ago actually, on Wired.com IIRC, and was very excited. Still am, to be honest :)
Only thing I'm worried about is that the tethering functions may not actually make it to the Verizon network phones. It seems to me, that they would see that function as something that allows users to circumvent buying a mobile broadband card. (Which it does).
Verizon may force those of us that would use that functionality to pay extra monthly for the use of that function, something that I'm not willing to do. However, on the other hand, we ARE already paying for an unlimited data plan, so the net increase would be slim at best.
The other thing I'm worried about is that the time it may take for Verizon to actually distribute 2.2 to it's networked phones could be a very long time. 2.1 wasn't uploaded to the phones until a few weeks after Google actually released it.
Still, where I read about it, it also enables support for Flash 10.1, and actually returns a 450% performance increase.
Like I said, I'm excited, I just hope that the networks don't nerf the functionality of the system -------------------

Edited by: NightmareX on 22/05/2010 00:54:22 Alright, here is the Google I/O Keynote Day 2 Android Demo.
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4 & Part 5
Now i watched all that, and i'm gonna be very honest here and say this. Google / Android, you are the best thing that ever could happen to smart phones today.
I simply have no words to say about how damn awesome that is.
Heh, gonna be funny to see what Apple / iPhone OS is going to have when Apple is going to announce it to the world.
But i have a bad feeling that i might end up by sitting and watching the Apple keynote and crying with laughter because of stupidity from them.

Windows Mobile 6.5 is not a good OS for mobilephones today. It's sluggish and it's outdated alot. It might not be that sluggish on your HD2, since it have a very powerfull CPU and that, but it's still Windows Mobile 6.5.
I have a Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 to that runs Windows Mobile 6.5. It's working okish, but because the X1 have a crappy CPU, then the OS is running kinda slow.
This is how i rank the different OS'es for mobile phones today. Number 1 is the best one that are open and can provide alot of options while the last number is the crappiest one where you can't control anything you want.
1. Android 2.2 / 2.x
2. Windows Phone 7
3. Symbian ^3 / ^4
4. Maemo 5 (OS made by Nokia)
5. iPhone OS 4

Don't give much of a toss about your lists. I care about what I actually experience first hand.
Have fun though.

That's true. But have you tried Android 2.1 though?.
I can agree to some point that Windows Mobile 6.5 might be good if you only have tried Android 1.6. Since Android 1.6 isn't that good it self.
As long i can have a smart phone with an OS that runs really smooth and nice and who can run 720p movies with 6-8k kbps in bitrate without giving any stuttering and who are very easy to use and so on, then i'm happy.
Having easy access to lots of programs is also a good thing.
But what are you using your HD2 most to?. Surfing web, watching movies and stuffs like that?.

To be fair, I've had poos that were more satisfying than Windows Mobile 6.5 :)

Edited by: NightmareX on 28/05/2010 01:06:55 Hello again.
Just to show how nice you can get Android 1.6 to look by installing one program and 2 widgets. Then i'm gonna show you how my main screen on my XPERIA X10 looks now.
I had to do this first before i could take a screenshot of my screen on my XPERIA X10.
After that, i took the picture and it looks like this.
Now i will say beat that to iPhone OS lol. Even my XPERIA X10 can install 3 small things and make the old Android 1.6 OS it have now to look really really nice without loosing the warranty on the phone since you done have have to do a jailbreak / hack of some sort to get that to work.
