Edited by: Daool on 22/05/2010 07:03:46 Ok, this may not be the place but if so I'm sure it will be shuffled to the right one.
Basically everything in eve that a player can put anywhere can be destroyed by some other pric, ummm, player.
What about planet side structures in Tyranis?
I've been asking everywhere I can but no one seems to know and there seems to be nothing in Dev Blogs.
Surely these can't be placed, but not touched in the only way that counts

you haven't done proper research. DUST is supposed to affect planetary structures. and if that fails, CCP will find some other way to deal with it. ________________________________ : Forum Bore 'Em : Foamy The Squirrel |

Few issues there:
Firstly, CCP's own backstory talks about space based planetary bombardment (Galente-Caldari War), so I assume its going to be possible in some form or another.
Then there's the issue of the 'start line' for the planet logistics race being the launch of Tyrannis, is it right for CCP to have people spending what will presumably massive amounts of ISK on structures that will be able to be destroyed without those methods being even hinted at?
And if landing ground forces (aka Dust) IS the only means of destroying these infrastructures, doesn't that make these new structures the first items ever in eve that will be player placeable but indistructable (untill Dust).
It seems strange that not one Dev Blog that I can find even obliquely references destruction of these instalations from space (even to deny its likelihood).

I was thinking of the exact thing when i was messing in the test servers. There are so many loop holes in it all.
-If dust does become successful and there is a huge amounts of foot soldier.... How does the eve online community support such a large workforce? ISK is limited..
-What if dust is a disaster and near no one plays it.... Who can afford to hire some?
There is one simple solution. Make customs a player placed structure. If the customs gets destroyed, there is a timer before all structures on the planet get destroyed. Like dominion but planet side. If dust really needs to be implymented then restrict it to faction warfare. Militia corp hire dust players to take over planet that would act as dead space complexes. Just you cant do it yourself in a ship. |

why would DUST be limited to milita? industrial sabotage can happen anywhere. besides, look at Empire wardecs. ________________________________ : Forum Bore 'Em : Foamy The Squirrel |

Well, assuming CCP's own back story fiction will remain consistent:
[04:00][Command] Orbital Bombardment to begin T minus one hour [04:05][Command] Fleet begin deployment into close orbit [04:40][Command] Begin Lock Targets. Orbital spread. Pattern Delta-Four-Two [04:59][Command] Admiral Signals: For the people of Nouvelle Rouvenor [05:00][Command] Authorize weapons free. Execute bombardment - Fleet Log, Caldari Prime Orbital Bombardment. CE 23155.1.17 "Caldari Prime burns, those left behind are choking on the dust and ash that fills the air, and you demand our surrender? Is this a joke? You have only hardened our resolve. Every drop of blood you have taken from us will be repaid -- with interest." - CEP response to Federation demands for unconditional surrender after initial bombardment of Caldari Prime. CE 23155.1.18 Pasted from <http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Gallente-Caldari_War>
the Gallente ships orbiting Caldari Prime were large and cumbersome, little more than shooting platforms ideal for orbital bombardment. Pasted from <http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Gallente-Caldari_War:_The_Breakout_%28Chronicle%29>
So, perhaps orbital bombardment from Dreadnaughts? I can't find any mention of planet side space defenses.

There is no implementation of orbital bombardment or any other method to destroy planet-side infrastructure in Tyrannis. We'll have to wait for the winter expansion at the earliest.

This. All they are doing is introducing it, because of DUST however its bound to remain in their field of focus so will continue to be worked on thankfully.
You should note that should if orbital interference ever takes form there will undoubtedly be planetary defense structures included. So it wont be as easy as all that. -Jin Nib Trading on behalf of Opera Noir since: 2009.03.02 03:53:00
