I'm normally used to you guys at ccp changing things with some sort of explination, to be fair its your game we pay for the service but at the same time i think the player group would be intersted in knowing.
Simply put, we didn't actually change anything. It was in the code for a looong time (years?) that there was a 300 limit to standings for characters and corporations. We thought about changing it, looked at what would happen in the DB, and made a decision to leave it as is, pending examination of how it pans out on TQ.
We're also looking at expanding the label system to contacts, but have to do a lot more network optimisation and other backend work before that can be brought onto the "under work" table.
edit: oh forgot - the watchlist (online/offline notification) is not default for your contacts. You have to choose specifically to place people in your watchlist.

Can we place entire corporations in our watchlist?
Also, the problem most of us have, is that we didn't set standings with people on our buddy lists. I have over 400 buddies, but only around 6 or 7 people to whom I've set standings. This becomes an issue.

RIP folders...
labels would be help i guess, just so long as there's an 'uncategorised' or 'un-labelled' option so you don't have to go through a list of 100s of people to find the ones not in folders/labels.

Hello everyone,
I was reading over the patch notes as i'm sure all of you have been doing and saw alot of awesome improvements, however this one about having 300 contacts i'm not sure i understand why but i have 500+ contacts how is CCP going to decide which ones they are going to remove of mine? Frankly most of those contacts i keep in touch with and i wont be able to remember all the names that are going to be lost, will there be some support for this? also if a dev could explain to me the reason of 300 contact limit i would apreciate it. Some corps alone like to have their corpies on buddy list but as we all know, some corps are bigger than 300 strong not including out of corp friends. We are are MMO after all, i don't understand why were being limited to how many buddys we can have now i feel i am limited to 300 people only? surely 500 or so is a better number if not more.
Thoughs and Opinions welcome
The point is moot since everyone knows that you have less than a dozen "friends."

Edited by: Blnukem 192 on 26/05/2010 22:47:37 I personally wont be using the new contacts list for anything now. Having any form of standing with any person or corp requires you to use that damned contact tool. Adding to the pain, you can't EVEN SEE WHO YOU HAVE GOOD OR BAD STANDINGS WITH, as this was removed from the character sheet and forced into this crappy contacts list. So not only is it inconvenient to add new or edit standings, it's also time consuming just to see who you have standings with.
Horrible idea CCP. Please separate standings from contacts completely. I for one have lots of standings with people I don't want on that contacts list.

Edited by: Don Malice on 26/05/2010 22:52:05 I agree that standings needs to be completely separate from the contacts list. I, too, have many people and corporations I have standings with. This being limited and also being forced to merge all these standings with people I actually view as contacts is just horrible.
Horrible choice CCP. Fix it.

Another way of looking at it would be, if only 1% of people are actually affected by this limit, why was it needed at all? What negative effect could 1% of the playerbase possibly have that warrants inconveniencing them? -

Fair enough. Just everyone seemed so surprised by it. I am kind of shocked something like that wouldn't have gotten more attention before the patch if it was such a big deal to everyone.
Would have been nice if that dev who was here earlier would have at least said something about the folders. __________

I believe everyones problem is not the number of entities you can set standing towards, with the new addition of alliances that shouldnt be a problem for anybody. The problem is the basic contacts list. As in remembering their name. And maybe knowing wether they are on or offline. Though i must admit i still dont see why anybody would have more than 300 contacts. I couldnt remember that many people (and you would still have to remember who they are when they are in your contacts) IRL, yet in a game.
Originally by: Rasz Lin GREAT, so every time I mark someone red i have to add him , but I cant even label him as a throwaway contact, its just dumped into "contacks" folder, nice you just made the whole thing useless and as a bonus broke standings
Well, they would be in the list of people you have set red, why is it so important that he is in your contact list? Using Evegate you can find all the people you have set red very fast and remove him once your done having him red.
And while im posting anyways, Evegate needs groups and the possibility to export a set of contacts. And why is there still nothing that sets content apart from signature? Is that intentional or technically imposible? |

Edited by: Raven Kay on 27/05/2010 01:38:54 I am going to go ahead an +1 the idea for reinstating folders. That was the primary method I remembered where i met people, not to mention keeping an eye on wartargets by corp, or potential wartargets by corp. Grouping people via folders was the best part of the contact list, and as far as i can see just as useful in player management as standings, which shouldn't be part of the contact list directly. This 300 person limit is trash as well by the way.

This should never have been released without labels to replace folders.
Any performance issues should have been looked at as part of this change rather then after the fact.
Complete, utter, unadulterated fail.

This is the funny part. One hand of CCP is trying to "grow the social graph" and include features to increase the connections between players. The other hand is making sure the features are specifically designed so that none of the other teams goals can ever be met.

Not having any folders anymore is really annoying. I used that to remember where I knew people from at a glance (e.g. real friends, people I've fleeted in lowsec before but may still attack, etc.)
Contact list is pretty much useless to me now without folders, I really don't feel like going through my 70+ contacts one by one and checking their notes tab to find people that I know might be interested in a lowsec pickup fleet.

It's under reconsideration and they plan to add labels to it. I hope that my former folder set will be adapted by these labels. If not CCP ruined months of collecting and organization of 1600 contacts for different purposes.
Sorry that I don't have the time to read every wall of patch notes or dev blogs. But since yesterday I wasn't aware of that they removed folders and dropped all my contacts into the digital gutter. Even the standings are messed up. Reds show neutral in the list but their char shows red.
My BUDDY LIST was essential for intel about who's online actually of what pirate corp. My GTC customers are now somewhere hidden in this list. I need to do some research to find them.
Does someone at CCP also play this game?

I said in another thread before and will say it again, why did CCP think removing folders was a good idea? This has ruined the contact system and lost me roughly two years intel. I thought the expansion was supposed to add features rather than take them away.

Edited by: Misunderstood Genius on 27/05/2010 10:03:44 I am not generally complaining. The new patch feels great. Just to prevent misunderstandings. Overall CCP gave us one of the best games ever till today. I also can understand that a dev of such a huge task will never satisfy everyone and glitches or human dev errors are normal.
Generally I would strongly recommend that CCP should form up several strong ingame corps for PvP/PvE etc. by hired and PAYED very experienced +3 years players - important: with brain, intelligence, right attitude, understanding the game ... BALLS ... - testing EVE around the clock as a fulltime-job and LISTEN to those. Could help to boost the dev of EVE in the right direction dramatically. It's worth the investment. Really! :-P

Dear CCP,
Please CCP, bring back the ability to create folders for our Contacts. Not everything can be simply grouped into, "The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly".
And a limit of only 300 contacts seems too restictive.
Hopefully when you do, can you also allow us to broadcast and mail to these groups within Eve Gate.
Also , for Eve Gate, maybe add anothere filter where we can seperate, "Online/Offline/All".
Thank You. Kitty.
